Features
Auto HDR
Galaxy users are now able to On or Off the HDR functionality, which was set on Auto mode until the One UI 4.1. Through the Camera Assistant, you can turn On or Off the HDR for advantages including:
- HDR ON: Saturated bright areas are well expressed in backlight conditions by synthesizing multiple photos
- HDR OFF: If you want to get a photo with a slightly brighter background
Soften pictures
You can use the Camera Assistant app to select the texture of your photo and shoot it. Just turn on the Soften pictures option when you want soft photo skin expression and soft hair expression, and turn it off when you want detailed and vivid textured photos.
Auto lens switching
Lenses that have been automatically switched in respect of ambient brightness and distance to the subject can also be selected and used by the user through the Camera Assistant app.
- Auto lens switching ON: At 3x or higher, it automatically switches to a wide-angle lens when illuminating a dark or close-up object, allowing digital zoom to achieve well-focused and bright shots.
- Auto lens switching Off: Even when shooting in low-light or close objects at 3x or higher, clear optical zoom photography is now possible with a telephoto lens without changing the lens.
Video recording in Photo mode
You can now enable and disable the touch-and-hold shutter button feature to stop/start recording video. If you have experienced the inconvenience of recording a video when you accidentally press and hold the shutter button when capturing a picture, just turn on the Video recording in the Photo mode toggle.
Number of pictures after timer
When setting the timer by setting the number of shots (1, 3, 5, 7 ), you can more conveniently take continuous pictures from a distance without pressing the shutter button. We recommend you use Number of pictures after timer feature when you want to take a set of pictures without pressing the shutter button.
Faster shutter
When enabled, the Faster shutter feature of Camera Assistant app allows you to capture a series of pictures in super-fast speed. For now, the Faster shutter feature is available for the wide-angle lens only, but, we expect, Samsung will extend this support to other lenses as well including ultrawide and telephoto.
Camera timeout
With default settings, when the camera is turned on, it will turn off automatically after 2 minutes of inactivity. Well, with the Camera Assistant app, you can adjust the length of time the camera app stays for your convenience (1, 2, 5, 10 minutes).
Clean preview on HDMI displays
When the device is connected to an external display via HDMI, this function allows only the pure preview screen, excluding the user interface of the camera app, to be output via HDMI.
The initial version of Camera Assitant is just awesome, while we surely assume more futuristic and useful additions in near future.

Samsung reveals AI-based Moon photo detection system
Amid “fake” Moon controversy, Samsung shared an explanation of the AI-powered Moon photo detection system it has used since the Galaxy S21. The company also revealed that users can take a natural shot of the Moon by turning off the Scene Optimizer feature.
Starting the Galaxy S21 series, Samsung applied the AI-based Scene Optimizer feature in the Galaxy Camera app. Using deep learning and AI, this feature upscales the Moon shot and adds further details with processing to deliver a crispy and vibrant shot in Space Zoom.
“Samsung continues to improve Scene Optimizer to reduce any potential confusion that may occur between the act of taking a picture of the real moon and an image of the moon.” Said Samsung.
The Korean tech giant explains, if you have Scene Optimizer turned on, AI detects when you’re taking a clear photo of the Moon at 25X zoom or above. As soon as the camera detects the Moon, the technology lowers the brightness, and captures multiple frames (to produce a bright, low-noise picture).
Later, the AI-based feature uses a neural network to enhance the detail using a high-resolution reference image for comparison. The company also cited that the feature will not work if you either take a snapshot of the obscured Moon or use an image that clearly wasn’t taken on Earth.
“If users wish to take a picture without the support of AI, users can easily deactivate Scene Optimizer by heading to: Camera → Camera Settings → Scene Optimizer → Off“
Samsung may have felt explanation necessary during huge fake criticism of its pro-grade camera technology. A Reddit user shared his experience of experimenting with Moon shot using a Galaxy smartphone, which created critical controversy against Samsung.
With Scene Optimizer turned on, the Reddit user took a shot of a download and blurred image of the Moon, displayed on the monitor. The feature detected the appearance of the Moon and added details and sharpness to the shot to make it crispy as it does in real shots.
Naturally, anyone will call this kind of experience cheating but the reality is that Samsung revealed this technology after the release of the Galaxy S21 series. AI and machine learning technologies are being used in almost all aspects of the tech industry, and if a camera using it, it should not be any controversy.
