According to tipster IceUniverse, Samsung will use the new waterdrop hinge design in its upcoming Galaxy Z Fold 5 and Galaxy Z Flip 5 foldable phones. Similar to their predecessors, both will feature an IPX8 rating for water resistance, while there’s no upgrade on the dust resistance feature.

By using the new hinges, the South Korean tech giant will introduce its next-gen foldable phones with a slimmer form factor and less visible crease on the screen. This teardrop hinge design will help phones lessen the gap where the screen folds (center point).

In the recent past, it was rumored that Samsung will be buying screen panels from BOE to maintain the cost of foldables. However, the display search analyst revealed that there will not be any roll of BOE Display in Samsung foldables and Samsung Display will continue to supply its next-gen panels.

At CES 2023, the company showcased a prototype device featuring the waterdrop hinge design, which could be commercialized with the Galaxy Z Fold 5 and Z Flip 5. From the original Galaxy Fold to the latest Galaxy Z Fold 4, Samsung used the U-shaped hinge, which makes the smartphone comparatively thick.

Talking about the S Pen slot, Samsung fans’ dream may remain a dream this year as well. Due to changes in thickness and increased cost, the company has altered its plan to bring the S Pen compartment to the Galaxy Z Fold 5. Hence, you may have to carry the stylus as an additional accessory with Fold 5.

Today, the same source shared an identical image showing off the possible design of the cover display and foldable panel of the Galaxy Z Flip 5. As per the image, the outer display of Galaxy Z Flip 5 would be squarish, as part of giving the feel like its main screen.

It was yet to see which kind of dimensional changes the company will make in the Galaxy Z Flip 5 this year. However, Ice again comes up with a self-created render of a possible cover display design of the Korean tech giant’s next Flip-style smartphone. And here I melted down!

Spotted by Twitter user @tarunvats33, Samsung is working on the development of One UI 5.1.1 software on the Galaxy Z Fold 4 and Galaxy Z Flip 4. The devices have recently received the One UI 5.1 update and the development hints at another big upgrade this year.

Last year, Samsung debuted the One UI 4.1.1 with the Galaxy Z Fold 4 smartphone, based on Android 12L. Google introduced the Android 12L, especially for tablets and large-screen devices such as foldable phones. The company is yet to announce Android 13L but the One UI 5.1.1 enters the development phase.

CheckFirm app spotted test builds on the Korean variants on the Galaxy Z Fold 4 and Galaxy Z Flip 4 foldable phones. The recently released One UI 5.1 can be identified by “C” alphabet as the fourth last digit of Samsung’s firmware. And if you have a basic idea about Samsung’s strategy, you can’t take much time for verification.

One UI 5.1.1

Samsung is likely to introduce the Galaxy Z Fold 5 and Galaxy Z Flip 5 smartphones with Android 13-based One UI 5.1.1 software out of the box. The next-gen foldable phones may debut in August this year, whereas the One UI 5.1.1 may be available for older Galaxy devices a month later of launch.

Most of the Galaxy devices (tablets and foldables) running Android 13-based One UI 5.1 will receive the next One UI update post-launch. It’s expected that the company might share the enhancements with the Galaxy S series and Galaxy A series smartphones too.

Reliable tipster Ice Universe claimed that the Galaxy Z Flip 5 smartphone will feature an upgrade in an outer display, which is set to be larger than the cover display on the new Oppo Find N2 Flip. To be noted, the Find N2 Flip brings a 3.26-inch cover display and the Flip 4 has a 1.9-inch cover display.

Well, One UI software would be great and fruitful with the larger display on the Flip 5.

According to the information, via TheElec, industry sources revealed that Partron was excluded from smartphone camera module suppliers of Samsung’s Galaxy Z Flip 5 and Galaxy Z Fold 5. The outlet noted that the foldable devices are scheduled to be released in August 2023.

For the Galaxy Z Flip 4 and Galaxy Z Fold 4, Partron is one of the key suppliers for the camera modules. Meanwhile, Samsung is reducing its dependency on outside suppliers by increasing the production of camera modules through its Electronics and Electro-Mechanics subsidiary.

“TheElec noted that Partron’s name was not spotted on the Galaxy Z Flip 5 and Galaxy Z Fold 5 camera module suppliers list.”

Possible camera suppliers:

Meanwhile, MCNEX, Samsung Electro-Mechanics, and Cammsys are primary partners to supply front camera for the Galaxy Z Flip 5, while China’s Sunny Optical is secondary supplier.

Similarly, MCNEX, Samsung Electro-Mechanics, and Cammsys are the primary partners for the Galaxy Z Fold 5 camera modules, while Sunny Optical is listed as secondary partner.

However, Cho Cheol-hee, a researcher at Korea Investment & Securities, analyzed, “Patron is moving away from smartphones and focusing on new businesses, such as sensors, electronics, networks, and finished products, where the market size is growing.”

The company is likely to produce 32.63 million units of the Galaxy S23 lineup, while there’s a combined plan of 10 million units for the Galaxy Z Fold 5 and Galaxy Z Flip 5.

To be noted, the above-mentioned figures are from production plan, not the shipments target. An earlier report revealed that the company is estimated to ship 270 million Galaxy smartphone units in 2023, while the recent one suggests the production of 290 million units.

Since the 2023 production plan is set at 290,68 million units, the number has extremely decreased. During the same period last year, Samsung held an event and announced its plans, but this year’s production plan was 334.2 million units. The plan for next year decreased by 13% to 290.68 million units.
