DXOMARK ranked Chinese phones in favor of free units?

DXOMARK is a popular platform that assesses smartphones (such as camera and sound), lenses, and cameras in various aspects. After tests and assessments, the engineers at DXOMARK give points to the specific device, which plays a key role in ranking on the chart.

Well, it’s undoubtedly true that DXOMARK points and rankings don’t decide the quality and performance of devices and functions as the platform is led by only Chinese brands such as Honor, Huawei, and Xiaomi. Well, a serious question arises: does DXOMARK give points and ranks only if they got free review units?

For clarification, Frederic Guichard, CEO of DXOMARK revealed that Xiaomi stopped sending review units as their flagship device was not ranked on the top performer chart. The CEO revealed (indirectly targeting Xiaomi) that some manufacturers didn’t send review units this year as they don’t want to use DXOMARK scores for promotion.

The official accepted that DXOMARK purchased the Xiaomi Mi 12S Ultra for evaluation and the test results were released at the end of last month. Notably, after the launch of 12s Ultra, Xiaomi Boss Lei Jun also revealed that they had ‘an accident on DxOMark’.

DXOMARK CEO said: “I didn’t specifically respond to Xiaomi, but just wanted to answer consumer questions on social networks.”

Apart from this, Frederic Guichard talked about the revenue share of DXOMARK, and the revenue share of evaluation reports and testing tools/labs is roughly two-thirds. Earlier, it was reported that DXOMARK released a video in which the CEO clarified that ‘we don’t sell points nor lists.’

DXOMARK claims that the published scores of all devices depend only on the quality of the product itself, and are not affected by whether the manufacturer chooses the evaluation service. Meanwhile, various prominent reviewers raised questions as brands like Samsung, Apple, and Google are not getting ranked in even the top 5.
