On January 17, Samsung surprisingly launched its new generation chipset – Exynos 2200. The Galaxy S22 smartphones that are coming on February 9 will be the first to equip this processor. Before we saw this chipset in any device, Netflix has added support for Exynos 2200.

You may have known that Netflix keeps lists of devices that support Netflix HD, HDR streaming, etc. At the same time, the service also maintains a list of Netflix compatible chipsets. And recently, the company has updated this list with the addition of Exynos 2200 and 2100 (via Android Police).

On January 18, 2022, Samsung has launched its brand new processor – Exynos 2200. There are more interesting facts that Samsung has applied with this new chipset including the new AMD RDNA 2 architecture that is based on Samsung Xclips GPU (Graphics Processing Unit) to bring a boasting graphics visualization for smartphone owners.

For your information, the Samsung Exynos 2200 is launched and built with a 4 nm (nanometer) EUV (extreme ultraviolet lithography) process.

Xclipse GPU:

The Exynos 2200 uses a new GPU – Xclipse. As Samsung described, the word ‘X’ in Xclipse represents Exynos and the ‘eclipse’ is just an eclipse. Therefore, the Xclipse GPU will bring an end to the old era of mobile gaming and mark the start of an exciting new chapter.

Xclipse GPU is supported by the AMD RDNA 2 architecture that enables to play of high-quality graphics and features such as hardware acceleration ray tracing (RT) and variable rate shading (VRS). These features were only accessible for the PC, laptops, and console devices.

There’s more, the Xclipse GPU has various technologies including multi-IP governor (AMIGO) to enhance the overall performance and efficiency of the GPU and its usage.

Samsung Exynos 2200 launched

Performance:

Want something latest, don’t worry, Samsung Exynos 2200 will bring you the first in use ARMv9 CPU cores that provide better performance in speed compared to ARMv8 cores as well as improved security features.

This Samsung processor has an Octa-core CPU design with a tri-cluster structure made of a single ARM Cortex-X2 flagship core and three performance tagged with big cores – Cortex – A710 and four power management Cortex-A510 tiny cores.

We’re not done yet, the Exynos 2200 has a fast 3GPP Release 16 5G modem that will enable fast 5G access for both sub-6GHz and mmWave (millimeter wave) network bands. The new processor can absorb up to 10Gbps of network speed on our device thanks to the new E-UTRAN New Radio – Dual connectivity (EN-DC), which consists of both 4G LTE and 5G NR signals.

AI:

The AI section has also been improved with a new Neural Processing Unit (NPU). Samsung says Exynos 2200 has doubled the size of the AI performance as compared to before. The NPU now offers much higher precision with FP16 (16-bit floating point) in addition to power-efficient INT8 (8bit integer) and INT 16.

Security:

Samsung Exynos 2200 will bring you better system security with its Integrated Security Element (iSE) to store private cryptographic keys for RoT (Root of Trust).

Camera:

Let’s jump to the camera section, Exynos 2200 has a new image signal processor that supports up to 200MP of camera resolution, which is absolutely for the new flagship ISOCELL sensors. The camera ISP can now shoot 108MP resolution photos at 30FPS. The recording also supports 4K and 8K videos.

The Exynos 2200 has 8K enhanced featuring a multi-format coded (MFC) that makes the 4K at 240fps or 8K at 60fps and encodes up to 4K at 120fps or 8K at 30fps.

Immersive Viewing:

If you want to know about the display refresh rate then you should know that Samsung Exynos 2200 supports upto 144Hz of refresh rate supported by HRD10+ content quality for smoothest and fastest graphic transitions in all scenarios.

Samsung’s Exynos processor hasn’t received much attention from its users due to its relatively low performance over its Snapdragon companions. Disliking the poor performance, users have urged Samsung to offer future Galaxy devices with Snapdragon processors worldwide.

It looks like Samsung has listened to the users and now it is planning to launch the upcoming Galaxy phones with Snapdragon processors all over the world. A piece of new information reveals that the forthcoming Galaxy S22, S22+, and S22 Ultra will feature Snapdragon chips in all countries.

Previously, there were reports that Samsung will introduce its new Exynos 2200 chipset and the Galaxy S22 series will be the first to use it. Meanwhile, as per tipster Ahmed Qwaider, Samsung has dropped this plan and is looking to put Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 processor inside Galaxy S22 Ultra everywhere.

It seems a piece of good news for Samsung fans, especially for those who belong to Asia, Europe, and Latin America as they usually get the Exynos version of Note and S series phones.

To be mentioned, both the Exynos 2200 and Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 use one Cortex-X2 core, three Cortex-A710 cores, and four Cortex-A510 cores, and both are built using Samsung Foundry’s 4nm process. But, Snapdragon 8 Gen 1’s Adreno GPU is reportedly more powerful than Exynos 2200’s AMD RDNA2-based GPU.

Moving on, Samsung Exynos 2200 was officially scheduled to launch on January 11, 2022, however, this hasn’t happened. And, it the company might not introduce it for a few months now. Right now, we can’t clarify when the makers will release this chipset and which phone will use it.

As soon as any new information arrives on this matter, we’ll make sure to inform you. Till then, you can look forward to our Samsung Galaxy S22 series tracker (linked below) that carries all major and minor details about the devices.

In late December 2021, Samsung officially announced that it will introduce its new mobile platform Exynos 2200 on January 11. Ahead of the launch, we have come to know a little more about its specs.

According to a well-known tipster Ice Universe, the AMD Radeon GPU on the Exynos 2200 will be clocked at 1,300MHz, a bit above the A15 Bionic’s 1,200MHz clock speed. This figure is similar to an earlier report that talked about the overclocking capabilities of the GPU.

Although it suggests that Exynos 2200 will be slightly faster than Apple’s legendary Bionic A15, we cannot compare the performance difference based on clock speed considering how the two architectures are different and also running on different platforms.

Samsung Exynos 2200

Moving on, there sits a chance that Samsung has tweaked the Exynos 2200’s AMD RDNA2 GPU to keep thermals under control. Previously, it was unveiled that the chipset can operate at 1,800 MHz, but that requires a high 10W power budget.

Anyways, at present, there’s not much information about the upcoming Exynos 2200 GPU’s specs. Some rumors say that it could come with 4 CUs (Compute Units) and support raytracing on a hardware level.

Besides specs, as per the reports, the Galaxy S22 series will feature Samsung’s own developed Exynos 2200 chipset and will be available in several regions. Whereas, consumers in Europe and South Korea are most likely to get Galaxy S22 series featuring Exynos 2200 processor. The smartphone may go official on February 8.
