Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra powered by Exynos 2200 chipset beats Snapdragon 8 Gen 2-powered RedMagic 8 Pro in ray tracing. Exynos 2200 is the first Samsung chipset that developed in partnership with AMD (Xclipse GPU), which also supports ray tracing.

Courtesy of AndroidAuthority, Vitro released the ray tracing results of various flagship smartphones of 2022 and 2023. Surprisingly, the Exynos 2200 processor used in some Galaxy S22 phones defeated the RedMagic 8 Pro, powered by Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 in ray tracing performance.

With average frame rate of 21.6fps, the Galaxy S22 Ultra with Exynos 2200 processor performed better at 1080p resolution. On the flip side, 8 Gen 2 powered RedMagic 8 Pro stuck on an average frame rate of 17.6fps, which gives a clear win to the Samsung chip.

In ray tracing stress test, Exynos 2200 chip proved itself more reliable than the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 that included 20 continuous runs of the In Vitro test, whereas the latter throttled performance to manage heat post-17 test runs in the same criteria. [Average frame rate: Exynos – 16.9fps | Snapdragon 14.9fps]

Ray tracing: It is a new graphics rendering method, which calculates how light rays travel to offer a more accurate representation of lights, shadows, and reflections.

The last year’s Exynos 2200 chipset brings some futuristic features, but sadly, the performance and heating issues forced it to depart from the Galaxy lineup. This year, the Galaxy S23 series solely uses Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 with some CPU/GPU tweaks by Samsung.

I’m still concerned about performance of Galaxy S23’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 2

Until the launch of the Galaxy S21 series, Samsung radically followed two chipsets (Snapdragon and Exynos) strategy per market and region. Well, finally, Samsung fans in Europe will be able to grasp a true flagship without Exynos processor in the form of Galaxy S23 or S23 Plus or the S23 Ultra.

As pointed by out IceUniverse, for Europe consumers, upgrade from Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra to the Galaxy S23 Ultra is going to be “an earth-shaking change.” To add more authenticity to these words, the source shared benchmark scores of Exynos 2200 and Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 processors.

Sadly, the Galaxy S22 series ships with Samsung-made Exynos 2200 processor in Europe and a handful of other markets, while others get Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 variant. Compared to the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2, used in a Vivo phone, the Exynos 2200 is badly defeated in almost every segment.

Exynos 2200 vs Snapdragon 8 Gen 2

Qualcomm’s new Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset is manufactured by Taiwanese TSMC on 4nm process technology. The processor features 45% increment in Geekbench 5’s multi-core test, over the Exynos 2200. This huge improvement in benchmark scores will surely be making a positive change in overall performance.

So far, European consumers got Galaxy flagships with Samsung’s own made Exynos chipsets. In 2023, they will finally have their hands on the Galaxy S23 series phones with Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 processor, which performs 60% better than the GPU of Exynos 2200, along with notable 88% more power efficiency.

Galaxy S23 Series

Qualcomm officially confirmed that the Galaxy S23 series will use Snapdragon processor worldwide. However, there’s more! It’s being reported that the upcoming Samsung flagships will use an overclocked version of 8 Gen 2 chipset for more enhanced performance.

Currently, we don’t have any official statement from Samsung on this matter, however, the company is reportedly going to launch the Galaxy S23 series flagships in the first week of February 2023 at an in-person Galaxy Unpacked event in San Francisco United States.

The Galaxy S22 isn’t wondering a good performance to users while playing games. It concluded that there’s more to it than the poor performance of the Exynos 2200 and Snapdragon 8 Gen 1.

Galaxy-S22-game

According to the information, a famous tipster share list of thousands of apps that are part of the Samsung Game Optimizing Service, games are subject to “performance limits”. The list includes very popular apps like Instagram, Netflix, TikTok, and even some Google apps.

Samsung also included some of its own apps including Pay, Secure Folder, and others. It is not surprising to hear that reference programs like 3DMark, Antutu, PCMark, GFXBench, and GeekBench 5 are not listed here.

This indicates that Samsung does not allow measurement software to be accelerated. Korean YouTubers have gone so far as to change the 3DMark package name to reflect the Genshin impact. The renamed package achieved a significantly lower reference rating and average frame rate.

Benchmark scores are usually used to compare the performance of one device to another, however, the scores can be quite surprising sometimes. In a recent development, it’s reported that an Apple iPhone launched back in 2019 outperforms the Samsung Galaxy S22 in benchmarks.

According to a ZDNet report, a new benchmark has appeared on the web showing that select Galaxy S22 variants equipped with the Samsung Exynos 2200 chip had been surpassed by the Apple A13 Bionic chip, which debuted with iPhone 11 & 2nd-gen iPhone SE.

Join SammyFans on Telegram

It’s worth mentioning that Apple launched the iPhone 11 back in 2019, while the Galaxy S22 series is still waiting on the pre-order channel. Undoubtedly, just benchmark results don’t cite everything about the performance, even after they test the CPU and GPU.

Meanwhile, it gets worse and worse when the benchmarks showcase that 2022’s most powerful Android smartphone line made by Samsung can be outperformed by a chip that Apple developed in 2019. Although consumers are still waiting for honest reviews, the Exynos 2200 is said to have overheating issues.

Exynos 2200

If the Exynos processor really has such overheating issues, it’s not good for Samsung’s Galaxy S22 flagship lineup. Meanwhile, some of the issues and problems could be fixed with firmware updates, while it won’t be a meaningful resolution.

Samsung has released some new cooling technology for the Galaxy S22 Ultra that is designed to stay cool during continuous heavy use, including gaming. The ultimate goal? Stable performance even for a long time. While this is good for any application on the device, whether it’s over-photography or Netflix overdrive, it should be especially useful for gaming on the Galaxy S22 Ultra.

Thanks to Samsung’s new cooling technology. It uses a newly developed heat transfer technology called Gel-TIM. This helps to dissipate the heat more efficiently and this should translate to better continuous performance.

Samsung’s Gel-TIM is a thermal paste used for CPUs. The company says this will allow it to transfer heat 3.5x more efficiently than last year.

Samsung newly developed a cooling tech for Galaxy S22 Ultra

As mentioned earlier, this new technology has the potential to be great for most things. Gaming is one of the most in-demand uses for a mobile device and makes the device hotter than any other use.

That being said, even performance should be recognizable with anything. At least those who use or have used the Galaxy S21 Ultra can tell the difference.

Samsung also improved the steam chamber

In addition to the new Gel-TIM and Nano-TIM, Samsung has also improved the steam chamber in this device. It now covers more surface area, helping to improve heat transfer to keep the device cool longer.

Galaxy S22 S Pen Supports

And performance may also differ between the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 and Exynos 2200 models. Therefore, consumers need to take care of those things as well. That being said, it would not be surprising if continuous performance and improved cooling were the same in the model.

In particular, if you like Samsung devices while playing mobile games, you may want to consider the Galaxy S22 Ultra.

Samsung has recently unveiled the Galaxy S22 series smartphones, marking a major change in its flagship portfolio by integrating the Galaxy S and Galaxy Note series. Like every year Samsung has made hardware changes than the previous generation to Galaxy S22 series, the performance gets a big boost with the new 4nm chipset.

As in previous years, Samsung maintains its dual-chipset approach to its flagship Galaxy S22 series and sells flagship devices with different chipsets by region.

So, if you are wondering if Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 or Exynos 2200 will be available for Samsung Galaxy S22 series phones in your area, you are in luck. Galaxy S22 series chipset distribution details have just been revealed.

Samsung Galaxy S22 Chipset Availability

Samsung Galaxy S22 Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 and Exynos 2200 variant availability!

Those Galaxy users are living in the US already know that Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 is included. This is not the only area where SOC is located, not even close. Apart from North America in general, South Korea, Australia, India, South Africa and the United Arab Emirates are getting that chip.

Only Europe and the United Kingdom are on the corner of the Exynos 2200. Conditions have changed a lot compared to previous years. The Exynos version ranks first in almost every region except the US and South Korea.

Samsung’s Exynos flagship SoCs are generally lower than Qualcomm. It’s too early to tell what the situation will be this year, but you have it. Both chips are very powerful on paper, however, both are made using the 4nm process.

Galaxy S22 pre order

These two chips are actually octa-core SoCs with Cortex-X2 performance cores, three Cortex-A710 cores and four Cortex-A510 cores. Needless to say, they come with different GPUs and many other hardware differences.

It remains to be seen how two different SoCs will be found this time around. The Galaxy S22 series was officially launched two days ago, so it is too early to make any conclusions in this regard.

Samsung Galaxy S22

Original article: February 8, 2022

The much-awaited Samsung Galaxy S22 series is finally launching on February 9, 2022. Earlier, we have come to know a lot about these devices as they will come with Exynos 2200 and Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 processors.

Recently, a report revealed which country users will get which chipset variant. Unfortunately, the report didn’t mention about Indian variant. Meanwhile, new information (via Pricebaba) claims that Indian Galaxy S22 phones will use Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 SoC.

Finally, Samsung India fans will have something to cheer about. For most flagship smartphones, the company usually offers Exynos processor variants in India, which puts the devices at a disadvantage compared to the brand’s competitors.

In December last year, we have heard a similar rumor, and the new leak is just another confirmation that all three Samsung Galaxy S22 models will come with Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 chipset in India.

  • Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra with Exynos 2200 surpass Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 on Geekbench:

Although the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 SoC is reportedly more powerful than the Exynos 2200, the Galaxy S22 Ultra with Exynos 2200 has beaten the Galaxy s22 Ultra Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 variant.

Geekbench listing reveals that the Exynos 2200 chip’s single-core score is 1168, while the multi-core score is 3508. On the other hand, the same device with Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 chip earlier recorded 1226 points in the single-core test and 3462 points in the multi-core test.

Samsung will launch the Galaxy S22 series on February 9, 2022. We’ve encountered a lot of leaks and rumors about the upcoming flagship devices and about their internals too. Recently, the Galaxy S22 Ultra equipped with Exynos 2200 SoC benchmarked on Geekbench, beating the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 chip.

According to the information, the upcoming Galaxy S22 Ultra (model SM-S908B) featuring Exynos 2200 appeared on the Geekbench benchmarking website. However, the single-core and multi-core scores of the Exynos 2200 are not much different from the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1.

Exynos 2200

Geekbench listing reveals that the Exynos 2200 chip’s single-core score is 1168, while the multi-core score is 3508. On the other hand, the same device with Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 chip earlier recorded 1226 points in the single-core test and 3462 points in the multi-core test.

Following the listing, it can be seen that the multi-core score of Exynos 2200 is slightly better, and the single-core score is slightly lower than that of Snapdragon 8 Gen 1. And the benchmark data suggests that Exynos 2200 is not far better than the 8 Gen 1.

Exynos 2200 Geekbench

If you don’t know, the Exynos 2200 is based on Samsung’s 4nm process and adopts a “1+3+4” design. The super core is Cortex X2, the large core is Cortex A710, the small core is Cortex A510, and the GPU is Xclipse 920 with AMD RDNA 2 architecture.

It’s officially confirmed that the Exynos 2200 chip will be first launched with the Galaxy S22 series and will only be available in a few markets such as Europe. On the other hand, the US, Chinese, and some South-Eastern region markets will get Galaxy S22 series with Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 processor.

Exynos 2200 Netflix support will surely deliver the highest quality experience to the future smartphones and tablets that will feature Exynos 2200. In addition, this combination will also offer features like Dolby Vision, HDR, HD streaming, and more.

Exynos 2200

The best part of Exynos 2200 Netflix support is that you will get all these features out of the box and you won’t need any software updates to experience the offered best quality. So if you are a Netflix binger, buying an Exynos 2200 powered Samsung Galaxy S22 will be worth it.

Samsung Galaxy S22 with Snapdragon 8 Gen 1:

As always, Samsung will not introduce its smartphone with a single chipset, the Galaxy S22 will also equip Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 processor. Countries, such as the US, India, and China are expected to get the Snapdragon variant of the device.
