Here’s how to send text messages with your Samsung Galaxy Watch 4, Watch 5
Due to the new and most advanced features, Samsung Galaxy Watch 4 and Galaxy Watch 5 smartwatches are some of the most beloved wearables in the industry. The watches are capable to let you talk on a call. However, when you or the second person can’t hear a clear voice, you can send text messages with your Samsung Galaxy Watch 4 or Galaxy Watch 5.
These wearables allow users to create new messages, view incoming messages, and send message replies using the preinstalled Messages app without even picking up their Galaxy phone from their pocket or bag.
Not only this but you can also send replies using instant messages or when you reject an incoming call. And, what makes text messages more interesting on these Galaxy smartwatches is the One UI Watch 4.5‘s QWERTY keyboard that lets you switch between input modes, including keyboard, voice input, and handwriting, during text entry.
Do note that you can only use the pre-installed Samsung Messages app for texting on your Galaxy wearables. Third-party messaging apps such as Google Hangouts, WhatsApp, or Facebook Messenger cannot be installed on the watch.
Here’s how you can send text messages on your Samsung Galaxy Watch 4 or Galaxy Watch 5:
First of all, navigate to and tap Messages app on your wearable. To compose a new message, select either the message icon or the contact icon. Now enter or choose your recipient. If you want to send a reply to an existing conversation, select the message from the log instead.
There are many methods to choose from when it comes to creating or replying to a text. Just swipe up to see the following options:
- Microphone: Speak into your watch and have it converted to text.
- Voice recording: Record your voice as an audio file and send it to a recipient. This option is only available on the Galaxy Watch4 and Galaxy Watch5 series.
- Emoji: Select an emoji as your response.
- Write: Write letters on the watch face. Written letters will be converted into text.
- Keyboard: Type out your response using the watch’s T9 keyboard.
- Quick response: Select a Quick message to send as your response.
- Reply on phone: Send the conversation to the Messages app on your connected phone and then reply using your phone’s keyboard. You will be required to unlock your phone first if you have a Lock screen.
- Edit responses: Create or edit Quick messages by writing letters on the watch face. Just like with text input, written letters will be converted into text.
- Doodle: Write letters on the watch’s face. Written letters will be sent as an image. This option is not available on the Galaxy Watch 4 and Galaxy Watch 5 series.
When replying to a group message, replies will be sent back to the entire group. To reply to an individual recipient, tap the More option (the three vertical dots) on the right-hand side of the screen, and then tap the recipient. Select the desired recipient, and then tap the Message icon.
