Themed Icons feature of Android 13 is getting a big development with the QPR2 Beta 2. As detailed by Mishaal Rahman, Google has added a new toggle, using which, you can give a monochromic icon to any app.

Since the feature is in the testing phase, Pixel phones running Android 13 can get all the experimental stuff by enrolling in the Beta program. For the Themed Icons feature, Android 13 QPR2 Beta 2 truly has a great upgrade.

With Android 12, Google introduced Material You design language. This feature allows your phone to optimize overall user interface as a wallpaper-derived color. Themed Icons feature turns the default app icons into Dynamic.

For Themed Icons, app developers are recommended to upload monochromic icon of app while uploading the file. However, some apps still lack the monochromic app, which destroys the experience that Google wants to deliver.

Google’s latest Android Beta has brought a new toggle entitled ENABLE_FORCED_MONO_ICON. The description of this button reads, “Enable the ability to generate monochromatic icons, if it is not provided by the app.”

Notably, the feature is currently disabled by default and hidden behind the “ENABLE_FORCED_MONO_ICON” flag. For Samsung devices, this feature will hopefully be available in the second half, possibly with One UI 5.1.1.

One UI 5 Themed Icons

Samsung One UI allows you to completely turn off the Dynamic Theming feature on Galaxy devices. But when enabled, users can choose their favorite color palette from the massive library as well as solid colors.

Themed Icons feature is also available on Galaxy devices, but lack of monochromic icon is lessening the optimized experience. When enabled, apps that don’t have monochromic icon remain unchanged while others admire a uniform appearance.
