Samsung launches Camera Assistant: First impressions [One UI 5 Good Lock]
At the Developer Conference 2022, Samsung teased a new Camera specific module for the Good Lock suite. On October 24, Samsung debuted the Stable One UI 5.0 update for Galaxy S22 and the One UI 5 Good Lock, bringing the new Camera Assistant module.
Camera Assistant is a new addition to the Good Lock suite that lets you modify several settings and options of the stock camera app as per your preference. Not that all, there’s a lot to explore in the newly added Camera Assistant module in the Good Lock family, but before it, let’s have the first impressions.

Samsung Camera Assistant – First Impressions
There are a total of six ON/OFF choices for the following features:
- Auto HDR
- Soften pictures
- Auto lens switching
- Video recording in Photo mode
- Faster shutter
- Clean preview on HDMI displays
The Samsung Camera Assistant app also brings two additional features:
- Number of pictures after timer
- Camera timeout
Using the Auto HDR tool, you can let the Samsung Camera app capture more details in the bright and dark areas of pictures and videos for even crispier results. And the Soften pictures option makes the stock Camera app able to smooth out sharp edges and textures in Photo mode pictures.
When enabled, the Auto lens switching option lets you allow the camera app to pick the best lens based on the zoom, lighting, and distance to the subject. Also, you can record videos with just “touch and hold” the Shutter button in Photo mode by enabling the Video recording in Photo mode tool.
Shutter speed on Galaxy S22 Ultra is criticized by users as it takes more time than other flagships to take a complete shot. Well now, you can somewhat fix the Shutter lag delay with the help of the Camera Assistant module’s tool named Faster shutter.
Using the HDMI cable, we can extend the screen preview of the phone to other displays and on smart TVs. Meanwhile, the Camera Assistant app takes the experience to the next level thanks to the Clean preview on HDMI displays option. Once enabled, you can show the camera preview without settings or buttons on HDMI-connected displays.
Apart from these six ON/OFF tools, the Camera Assistant app allows you to set the number of pictures captured after the timer with options including 1, 3, 5 and 7. Last but not least, there are now 4 options for Camera timeout to choose from including 1, 2, 5 or 10 minutes.
Availability.
One UI 5 Good Lock app requires Samsung devices running Android 13 (T) OS. As the Camera Assistant module is a part of the new Good Lock version, you will have to wait until your Galaxy device gets upgraded to the One UI 5.0 stable version.
