This new Samsung display could send Galaxy foldable smartphones in a new direction
Samsung never commercialized outward foldable display smartphones, but, it might be possible in near future. Not only outward folding, but the future Samsung foldable phone could fold inward and outward: 360 degrees. Let’s explore the prototype!
Samsung spokesperson told TheVerge that the company has a prototype device that features “Flex In & Out” display, which can rotate 360 degrees, meaning it can be folded inward and outward. The panel brings a different hinge design, which could have lessened the crease’s visibility.

Moving ahead with the report, the Korean tech giant could replace the current hinge design with the “water-drop hinge” that could let the display form a looser shape — like a waterdrop — when folded inward along with putting less stress on the display.

The latest Galaxy Z Fold 4 smartphone uses a display that folds in just one direction — inward. Possibly, the company may commercialize this new kind of display panel and hinge design with the upcoming Galaxy Z Fold 5 smartphone.
Since the Fold 5’s tentative release timeline is August, the possibility of “Flex In & Out” display is less because of durability concerns. However, there is high chance that the next Galaxy Z Fold model could come with this new waterdrop hinge design to reduce the visibility of crease.
We are months away from August Unpacked, whereas the Galaxy S23 series is all set to make its official debut on February 1st. The Ultra comes with 200MP primary camera and advanced night photography skills. A recently leaked photo reveals how mind-blowing camera the S23 Ultra embeds.
