Google is expected to start Android 14’s Public Beta program at its I/O 2023 event (May 10). Samsung, on the other hand, may begin the One UI 6.0 Beta program for eligible Galaxy devices sometime after the official launch of the new operating system.

Samsung’s latest Galaxy S23 series will be the first to get the One UI 6.0 Beta update. Later on, the company will expand the Beta testing program to the Galaxy S22 and Galaxy S21 series along with the upcoming and older foldable smartphones.

The Stable One UI 6.0 update would start rolling out in October 2023, with Samsung may take about three months to gain the stability milestone through its Beta testing. In case the company manages to begin the Beta program by August, we may see the official One UI 6.0 rollout by October.

Last year, the South Korean tech giant started the Android 13-based One UI 5.0 Beta program in early August. With a quite short delay, the company managed to deploy the official One UI 5.0 firmware in late October and rapidly expanded to several models within a month.

We believe, Samsung may not make us wait too long for the Android 14-based One UI 6.0 Beta preview. Timeline aside, the Beta program may be available for a number of Galaxy devices, with some mid-range Galaxy A and M series would be included.

Samsung One UI 6.0 Beta Galaxy Devices:

  • S23, S23 Plus and S23 Ultra
  • S22, S22 Plus and S22 Ultra
  • Z Fold 4 and Z Flip 4
  • S21, S21 Plus and S21 Ultra
  • Z Fold 3 and Z Flip 3

Note:

  • Availability may be limited to select markets.
  • The list is based on the previous rollout and Samsung’s software strategy.
  • Select A and M series phones may also get access to the One UI 6.0 Beta program.

Google rolled out the second Developer Preview of Android 14 for Pixel smartphones. Android 14 DP2 brings a lot of new and unique features to Pixel devices, one of which is Emoji Wallpapers.

Several features of Android 14 DP2 are not visible by default, but tipster Mishaal Rahman has discovered a feature that is exclusive to Pixel phones i.e Emoji Wallpapers. The package name of this new feature is “com.google.android.apps.emojiwallpaper” and it needs the feature flag “com.google.android.feature.PIXEL_EXPERIENCE” to be declared.

ANDROID 14 EMOJI WALLPAPERS

Emoji Wallpaper! Its name itself tells us its functionality. This feature allows you to create a wallpaper of 14 emojis with Android 14 on Pixel devices. This means that you can make a wallpaper by selecting the emoji of your choice.

In the Emoji Wallpaper app, you can select emoji, patterns, and colors to create a new wallpaper. Also, you can click on the Randomize button to generate a randomized emoji wallpaper. However, there are different patterns available for Wallpapers – Mosaic, Lotus, Stacks, Sprinkle, and Prism.

Once the wallpaper is created according to your own, then press Save. Now, you can easily set it on your smartphone’s home or lock screen, just need to visit Settings >> Wallpapers & Style >> Wallpapers >> Emoji Lab.

Notably, the feature is not enabled by the default in Android 14 Developers Preview so but the tipster found it. So it is not confirmed whether Google will release it with stable Android 14 or not.

Google made Android 14 official in early February and plans to begin the distribution for the public in the third quarter of the year. The One UI 6 Beta is a future thing, but which Samsung devices will be supported for it?

One UI was first introduced in 2019, and since then, Samsung runs its own Beta testing for Galaxy devices every year. No doubt, the company will bring One UI 6, based on Android 14, expected to roll out for Galaxy flagships later this year. With Android 13, the company achieved its fastest rollout in history and future rollouts would hopefully amaze the industry and fans. This year, the Galaxy S23 will be the first Samsung devices to get the Beta/Stable update of Android 14.

In 2022, Samsung started the One UI 5 Beta program a few days ahead of the official Android 13 release. Chinese phone makers managed to deploy the Stable version with their custom skins ahead of Samsung, but the company has concluded the rollout in 2022 itself.

The recently released Galaxy S23 flagship will first get the Android 14-based One UI 6 Beta. To be specific, we will tell you which device will get the One UI 6 Beta this year.

Samsung One UI 6 Beta:

  • S23, S23 Plus and S23 Ultra
  • S22, S22 Plus and S22 Ultra
  • Z Fold 4 and Z Flip 4
  • S21, S21 Plus and S21 Ultra
  • Z Fold 3 and Z Flip 3

Chinese promotion aside, Samsung proved that it is the best non-Google Android vendor which offers user-friendly Beta testing. Do note that the Beta firmware includes some bugs due to experimental and undeveloped features, therefore, if you don’t want any bugs, stay on the Stable build.

Apart from Galaxy flagships, the Korean tech giant also expands the One UI Beta Program to select Galaxy A and M series smartphones.

Millions of Galaxy devices have already upgraded to the Android 13 operating system, but, Samsung consumers have now started to discuss the Android 14 update. Pay attention, Galaxy devices eligible for a more major OS upgrade might get One UI 5.1.1 as well, based on Android 13, before v14.

In early February, Google kicked off Android 14 on the Developer Preview channel, with the 2nd build launches this month. April and May would be going to the months of Android 14’s Public Beta rollout, followed by Platform Stability could be reached in June / July.

Different non-Google smartphones would get access to the Android 14 Developer Preview as soon as it expands as Public Beta for Pixel devices. However, Samsung won’t participate in Google’s activities as it runs its own One UI Beta testing for Galaxy handsets.

Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra

The current One UI 5.0 is based on Android 13, whereas the last year’s One UI 4.x versions are based on the Android 12 operating system. Accordingly, the company may introduce the One UI 6.0 software for Galaxy devices, which will be based on the Android 14 OS.

Samsung is committed to bringing up to four generations of Android plus One UI and five years of security updates. Thanks to this solid policy, we have a pretty clear idea of which Galaxies will be receiving the next Android version upgrade.

Samsung One UI 6 Early Access

One UI in 2023

Samsung started 2023 with the unveiling of the One UI 5.1 in early February. Within a month of launch, the company shared this S23-exclusive firmware with older Galaxy devices such as the Galaxy S22, Galaxy S21, Galaxy S20, and Galaxy Note 20 as well as Galaxy Fold and Flip series.

At the August Unpacked, Samsung will introduce the next One UI iteration – One UI 5.1.1. This new software will also be based on the Android 13 operating system. However, it will bring some additional tweaks and multitasking enhancements for large-screen devices.

Later this year, Samsung would unveil the Android 14-based One UI 6.0 firmware for Galaxy devices. It would take about three months for the company to test, adopt and optimize the new OS for Galaxy devices. Accordingly, the One UI 6.0 rollout is expected to start by October 2023.

Samsung One UI can be easily considered the best Android custom skin, which prefers safety and reliability over the cosmetic user interface. There’s an insane crowd in the Android segment with each brand introducing its own software skin with tweaks on Android.

The Galaxy-maker also does the same with the Android user interface but safety and reliability always remain the top priority of Samsung and One UI, over the user interface. Data safety and reliability are a must in the ongoing trend as people rely on electric gadgets such as phones to keep data stored.

For a long time, the Korean tech giant is putting efforts toward bringing a reliable software system to Galaxy devices. Samsung Knox is the biggest example, which ensures defense-grade safety and reliability and the One UI continues to improve the security department.

Some users say each One UI iteration looks almost the same as previous versions, but they still prefer One UI. The reason is simple, user interface can’t be in priority if Android software is delivering the best level of safety and security features.

Google plays a key role in developing great new security-related features in the Android operating system. Android 13’s Privacy Dashboard and Android 12’s Camera/Mic indicators are some of the most recent examples. Bounded with GMS policies, Samsung proudly brings features that enhance user and data security.

Samsung One UI safety user inteface

Multiple studies say that Chinese phones and custom skins come with a tank of bloatware, which somehow lets hackers spy. We can’t forget the last year’s data breach incident with Samsung, but there are a large number of complaints in rival skins.

China focuses on selling cheap phones as certain users don’t care about the reliability and accountability of software. Way back in 2018, WallStreetJournal reported that apps pre-installed on phones sold in developing countries were said to secretly collect user data such as IMEI, MAC, and location.

Whether it’s a budget, mid-range, or flagship phone, Samsung offers the same treatment to consumers when it comes to security. We can’t deny user interface tweaks are necessary, but one can’t compromise precious data and security in favor of UI decoration.

Samsung One UI 5.1 is a fantastic upgrade for the Galaxy smartphones, It comes with various features, and it would be suitable if we call it a perfect appetizer ahead of a full meal of One UI 6.

One UI 5.1 comes with a variety of new additions to the camera for changing color tone. It has better Expert RAW features, better search in the Gallery app, also enhanced image remastering inside your Galaxy phone, and more.

Aside from that, there are optimizations made to the full screen and app window, split screen, and the almighty DeX. Nonetheless, One UI 5.1 brings you better modes and routines, which will allow you to change wallpapers based on your current activity. You are also able to use new actions for quick sharing, touch sensitivity, and more.

This Samsung One UI 5.1 appetizer makes your Galaxy phone’s weather nice and cozy with quick access to weather alerts, daily weather summaries, and sunrise and sunset times. And there are additional features of the weather app that will improve its use cases.

I see this new version of One UI as a Samsung Internet app booster, why? Because it has a brand new smart feature called “Continue browsing”. This capability lets you resume a webpage on a different Samsung device. All you need to do is to sync the Samsung ID into another Samsung smartphone and Voilà! You will get a continuous web browsing experience.

Lastly, there are some important enhancements made throughout the Settings menu. Yet there’s one specific change that you must know. Yeah, it’s the new battery widget, which is something new for the One UI universe.

One UI 6:

One UI 5.1 is a massive appetizer and will keep your expectations stuffed with this super list of features until Samsung brings out One UI 6 in the second half of this year.

Two days ago, Google revealed the Android 14 development program (check features) and published DP1 build. As per the schedule, the Android 14 OS would reach Platform Stability level 1 and 2 by June and July, respectively. Consequently, Pixel users will start getting Stable Android 14 sometime in August.

Various non-Google OEMs such as OnePlus and Xiaomi would start bringing the Android 14 for testing to their flagship handsets when the new OS reaches the Public Beta timeline. Meanwhile, Galaxy users have to wait until the Android 14 goes live for Public, leaving the Beta testing.

Samsung, on the other hand, will wait a little bit more to let Google finalize Android 14. Once done, the Galaxy device users will be able to install the new OS on top of the next iteration of One UI. Hopefully, One UI 6 Beta testing would begin by late July or early August this year.

Why, Galaxy S23 Ultra?

Samsung’s best smartphone technology can be seen in the Ultra flagship of the Galaxy S series. This year, the S23 line solely uses Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 Mobile Platform for Galaxy processor. This chip is produced by TSMC after the fruitful collaboration of Samsung and Qualcomm.

Qualcomm just revealed that the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 for Galaxy is its fastest Snapdragon chipset, which powers only the Galaxy S23 series. Since the hardware is all set to deliver epic experiences, Samsung’s next major upgrade will surely make fruitful improvements in history.

Seeing the smoothness and extra features of One UI 5.1, I can’t stop thinking about the One UI 6, based on Android 14. It’s far away from us, but still, my madness toward Samsung’s excellent One UI is not hidden from anyone. And as the first step to coming closer to One UI 6 is to have an S23 Ultra.

Galaxy S20 was the first to get Beta and Stable update of One UI 3.0, and the same happened with Galaxy S21 for One UI 4.0 and Galaxy S22 Ultra for One UI 5.0. And naturally, the Galaxy S23 series will be the first to get invited for One UI 6 Beta testing, followed by Stable rollout.

What do you think about One UI 6? Would Samsung amaze us with One UI this year, let me know through social media!

The concept of One UI 6.0 is related to the new feature of Always on Display which is Adaptive AOD. Let’s explore it in brief.

The new concept of One UI 6.0 shows the Adaptive Always On Display feature and after enabling it you can see your ongoing activity on the lock screen.

As you are listening to music, looking at routes on Google Maps, or the timer is on then you do not need to unlock your smartphone when it is locked as you can see your ongoing tasks on the Always On Display.

Also, if there is no ongoing work, you can see your selected widget on the AOD screen. As per the fan, you can enable the Adaptive Always on Display feature under the Lock screen options.

Compared to One UI 5.0, the One UI 6.0 concept added widgets and other activities to the AOD feature. And you can see it just below the toggle to enable AOD.

Besides this, the concept also shows the ‘When the show’ option located below the adaptive feature, in which there may be options for when Always on Display should be visible.

I’m sure, you may have been counting days remaining in the Galaxy Unpacked, for S23 or the One UI 5.1. Why we don’t think two more steps ahead as Google’s about to introduce the new Android 14 operating system? Seeing One UI 5 vs One UI 4 vs One UI 3 rollouts, I hope, the One UI 6 could be close to perfection.

Over the past few years, Samsung made significant developments in its software department, especially the One UI and security patches. Galaxies get new patches ahead of Pixie’s, and the One UI 5 (Android 13) update rollout was truly unprecedented.

Within 2022, all eligible Samsung devices started to receive the Android 13-based One UI 5 upgrade. The availability issue remains as it is due to the company’s staged deployment method. However, no one can deny the fact that One UI 5 rollout amazed all of us, rivals excluded!

One UI 3

Months after Beta testing, Samsung began the Android 11-based One UI 3.0 upgrade rollout in December 2020, with the Galaxy S20 series as the first entry. All other flagships launched before the S20 got listed for January 2021, and some for February.

One UI 3

For non-flagship devices, the One UI 3 update was not praisable at all, as it lead consumers to wait for months. The premium Galaxy A handsets got scheduled to upgrade to Android 11 by April 2021, whereas the entry-level and budget ones continued receiving updates until September 2021.

Seamless updates feature is expected to join Samsung with One UI 6 and the software department head already noted that the company wants to make future One UI updates even faster. Samsung praised itself, why not, with a Newsroom post, and promised to come up with even faster updates in 2023.
