While the Galaxy S23 Ultra sets new standards in the smartphone camera, Samsung is reportedly not bringing an upgrade to Galaxy Z Fold5 primary camera. A trusted tipster claimed that the company’s next foldable phone will continue to use the Fold4-like camera module.

According to the leak, Samsung Galaxy Z Fold5 will continue to use the same camera module (primary) as the Galaxy Z Fold4. In addition, the source noted that the HP2 camera installation in the next Fold is impossible, suggesting the sensor’s exclusivity to S23 Ultra throughout the year.

The sketchy leak just tells us the Galaxy Z Fold5 could be equal to its sequel in the camera department. However, it’s also reported that the primary camera sensor will remain the same. And the company might bring new Telephoto and ultrawide lenses with the Fold5.

For your info, the Galaxy Z Fold4 uses an ISOCELL GN3 sensor, featuring a 50-megapixel resolution. More key specs of this camera sensor include an f/1.8 aperture, 1.0-micron pixels, and benefits from Dual Pixel PDAF (Phase Detection Auto Focus) and OIS (Optical Image Stabilization).

Since the vanilla and Plus Galaxy S23 models don’t have upgraded primary cameras, Samsung did a pretty impressive job by enhancing the algorithm code. We hope, the same will happen with the Galaxy Z Fold5 and the company may amaze fans with software-derived tricks.

On March 16, the Korean tech giant is expected to launch the Galaxy A54 5G smartphone along with the Galaxy A34. For the next-gen foldable phones, we believe, Samsung may pick the August/September 2023 release timeline, continuing its conventional strategy.

According to Samsung tipster IceUniverse, the Galaxy Z Fold5 will bring a 6.2-inch panel, exactly the same as its predecessor. The source also claimed that he has confirmed information about most specifications of upcoming foldable devices.

In another Tweet, Ice revealed that the design of Samsung Galaxy Z Fold5 and Galaxy Z Flip5 won’t be changed. Meaning that we will be getting just refined versions of the last year’s Samsung foldable phones in 2023. Other than this, the tipster has not revealed anything about key specs such as the processor and camera.

After the launch of the Galaxy Z Fold4, consumers asked Samsung to bring a wider panel with the future foldable without increasing the size. The Z Fold 4โ€™s external display has a tall aspect ratio of 23.1:9. Thatโ€™s much taller than the 19.5:9 aspect ratio of the S23โ€™s 6.1-inch display.

The tipster has just revealed the outer display size of the upcoming Galaxy Z Fold5 smartphone and there is still a possibility that the company may introduce a different aspect ratio. At present, we are months away from the launch as well as there is no graphical evidence regarding the design of Fold5.

Recent rumors about the Galaxy Z Fold5 promise a thinner design and a new type of hinge in order to reduce the display crease. Besides, the Galaxy Z Flip5 is also reportedly getting a bigger external display, which has also been one of the highly requested changes.

Well, guessing the s/w update eligibility and model number of flagships is a pretty tricky and easy task. Any Samsung fan having a little bit of knowledge and understanding can disclose the model number of future products.

So, what’s left? Let’s gather model numbers of the unreleased Galaxy Z Fold5 and Galaxy Z Flip5 smartphones.

  • Fold5 – SM-F946U / SM-F946W / SM-F946B / SM-F946N
  • Flip5 – SM-F731U / SM-F731W / SM-F731B / SM-F731N

The Galaxy Z Fold4 carries model number SM-F936x where “x” needs to be replaced with U/U1, W, B, or N. The alphabets U and U1 denote that it’s a US carrier or unlocked variant, while B is for international, W is for Canada, and N is for South Korea.

It looks like, Google ditched the “L” variant from the Android operating system just after bringing the first iteration. It means, the upcoming Galaxy foldables will come with Android 13-based One UI 5.1.1 out of the box. Moreover, the software support will last up to Android 17 and September 2028.

It was reported recently that a foldable prototype with waterdrop hinge will enter a rigorous testing phase, and if it passes, Samsung will proceed with the production. The company could launch the Galaxy Z Fold5 smartphone in August 2023, however, an official announcement is yet to be done.

Samsung Galaxy Z Fold5 is almost confirmed to get a new waterdrop hinge and 2023’s signature design. Ahead of the unveiling, concept creator HoiINDI posted the first concept renders of the upcoming foldable smartphone, which takes a lot of inspiration from rivals.

Ditching the U-shaped hinge design, Samsung Galaxy Z Fold5 is expected to feature a new waterdrop hinge to lessen the crease visibility and the gap appears at the center part when folded. The newly evolved hinge also helps the device to reduce the overall thickness and provide better handling.

Let’s explore the concept:

And yes! The most highlighting part of the Galaxy Z Fold5 is its new waterdrop hinge, which makes it way too thin. Samsung’s indirectly following in the footsteps of China-based foldable smartphone vendors such as Oppo, Xiaomi, and Honor.

The new waterdrop hinge nearly ends the biggest problem of the gap at the center area in the folded state. Not that all, but it also radically lessens wrinkles (commonly known as creases). And overall, the phone is going to be a masterpiece from Samsung this year.

The concept render shows that the Galaxy Z Fold5 also uses Samsung’s under-display camera technology, which first debuted with the Galaxy Z Fold3. The company greatly reduced the visibility of the UDC area in the Fold4, which looks almost invisible in the upcoming foldable.

When unfolded, the cover display area continues to bring the Infinity-O display to embed the selfie camera. As you can see in the concept, the device has way too less bezels than its predecessor, and the additionally expanded area of the hinge is decreased as well.

Talking about the rear side, the Galaxy Z Fold5 features a triple rear camera setup, ditching the camera bump of the Galaxy Z Fold4. Samsung could make this change to maintain its signature design strategy, however, the design might also be changed before the official launch.

Besides three camera sensors, the device has an LED flash so you can take stunning shots even in an insanely dark situation. On the right side, you will get the power button and volume rockers, while the left part is naturally reserved for the hinge.

Recently, it was reported that the Fold5 prototype with a waterdrop hinge will enter a rigorous testing phase, and if it passes, Samsung will proceed with the production of elements. Samsung could launch the Galaxy Z Fold5 smartphone in August 2023, however, an official announcement is yet to done.
