Samsung tops India after 20 quarters: How was the smartphone market stay in Q4 2022
Xiaomi, which became a big headache for Samsung, finally lost its top position in Q4 2022 in India, reports Canalys. Samsung took about 20 quarters (~5 years) to retain its dominance in the Indian smartphone market because of the rapid growth of Chinese vendors.
According to the analysis, Samsung climbed to the number one spot in Q4 2022 for the first time since Q3 2017 in India. The company shipped 6.7 million units for a market share of 21%. Xiaomi, which was in second place slipped to third, giving the runner-up spot to Vivo.

In Q4 2022, Xiaomi lost its leadership position and fell to third place with shipments of 5.5 million units and a market share of 17%. The runner-up Vivo sold 6.4 million smartphones (20% share) with a large share of shipments through offline channels.

The Indian smartphone market suffered its first-ever drop in shipments in the fourth-quarter holiday period, falling by 27% to 32.4 million. Moreover, the report shows that overall shipments fell to 151.6 million units in 2022, declining by 6% compared with 2021.
With strength in the retail channel to drive volume, Samsung continues to target consumers across routes to the market, said Sanyam Chaurasia, Analyst at Canalys.
Global market:
Q4 was not so good for Samsung but it has defeated all of its rivals in full-year 2022 smartphone market worldwide. Canalys analysis reveals that Samsung remained the world’s biggest smartphone vendor in 2022, however, Apple led the fourth quarter.
Talking about the 2022 global market analysis, Samsung seized a 22% share worldwide with a 2% increase year-over-year. Apple remained the second biggest phone vendor with a 19% market share, securing a 2% growth over the last year. More here:

Samsung India officially launched two new mid-range smartphones – Galaxy A54 and Galaxy A34 and revealed their price and availability in the country. The devices were originally introduced in global markets on March 15.

Galaxy A54 Specs:

Under the hood, it has a 6nm MediaTek Dimensity 1080 processor and a 5000 mAh battery that supports 25W fast charging.
For photography, the company has installed a triple rear camera setup including 48MP primary camera (F1.8, AF, OIS), an 8MP ultra-wide angle camera (F2.2, FF), and a 5MP macro camera (F2.4, FF). The other side has a 13MP selfie shooter (F2.2, FF).

Amid “fake” Moon controversy, Samsung shared an explanation of the AI-powered Moon photo detection system it has used since the Galaxy S21. The company also revealed that users can take a natural shot of the Moon by turning off the Scene Optimizer feature.
Starting the Galaxy S21 series, Samsung applied the AI-based Scene Optimizer feature in the Galaxy Camera app. Using deep learning and AI, this feature upscales the Moon shot and adds further details with processing to deliver a crispy and vibrant shot in Space Zoom.
“Samsung continues to improve Scene Optimizer to reduce any potential confusion that may occur between the act of taking a picture of the real moon and an image of the moon.” Said Samsung.
The Korean tech giant explains, if you have Scene Optimizer turned on, AI detects when you’re taking a clear photo of the Moon at 25X zoom or above. As soon as the camera detects the Moon, the technology lowers the brightness, and captures multiple frames (to produce a bright, low-noise picture).
Later, the AI-based feature uses a neural network to enhance the detail using a high-resolution reference image for comparison. The company also cited that the feature will not work if you either take a snapshot of the obscured Moon or use an image that clearly wasn’t taken on Earth.

Samsung may have felt explanation necessary during huge fake criticism of its pro-grade camera technology. A Reddit user shared his experience of experimenting with Moon shot using a Galaxy smartphone, which created critical controversy against Samsung.
With Scene Optimizer turned on, the Reddit user took a shot of a download and blurred image of the Moon, displayed on the monitor. The feature detected the appearance of the Moon and added details and sharpness to the shot to make it crispy as it does in real shots.
Naturally, anyone will call this kind of experience cheating but the reality is that Samsung revealed this technology after the release of the Galaxy S21 series. AI and machine learning technologies are being used in almost all aspects of the tech industry, and if a camera using it, it should not be any controversy.

Samsung has finally launched the Galaxy A54 and Galaxy A34 smartphones with the latest internals, multiple advanced features, better day-night cameras, powerful security, new picture editing tools, impressive software support, and a beautiful design.

Meanwhile, the Korean firm further revealed that the new mid-range phone will be available to purchase in the UK (Europe) in late March. However, the exact date is still under wraps. Whereas in India and other Asian markets, the company will reveal the pricing and availability of the phones on March 16.
Samsung is offering four color variants for both of these devices. The Galaxy A54 comes in Graphite, Lime, Violet, and White color options. And, the Galaxy A34 offers Graphite, Lime, Silber, and Violet colors.
