Samsung’s latest Galaxy S23 series will be the first to get the One UI 6.0 Beta update. Later on, the company will expand the Beta testing program to the Galaxy S22 and Galaxy S21 series along with the upcoming and older foldable smartphones.

The Stable One UI 6.0 update would start rolling out in October 2023, with Samsung may take about three months to gain the stability milestone through its Beta testing. In case the company manages to begin the Beta program by August, we may see the official One UI 6.0 rollout by October.

Last year, the South Korean tech giant started the Android 13-based One UI 5.0 Beta program in early August. With a quite short delay, the company managed to deploy the official One UI 5.0 firmware in late October and rapidly expanded to several models within a month.

We believe, Samsung may not make us wait too long for the Android 14-based One UI 6.0 Beta preview. Timeline aside, the Beta program may be available for a number of Galaxy devices, with some mid-range Galaxy A and M series would be included.

Samsung One UI 6.0 Beta Galaxy Devices:

  • S23, S23 Plus and S23 Ultra
  • S22, S22 Plus and S22 Ultra
  • Z Fold 4 and Z Flip 4
  • S21, S21 Plus and S21 Ultra
  • Z Fold 3 and Z Flip 3

Note:

  • Availability may be limited to select markets.
  • The list is based on the previous rollout and Samsung’s software strategy.
  • Select A and M series phones may also get access to the One UI 6.0 Beta program.

Samsung will introduce the Android 14-based One UI 6.0 software version for Galaxy devices this year. I can confirm that the next version will be One UI 6 as there’s no rocket science behind this. One UI is a mature software and the company is strictly maintaining the naming strategy.

One UI 6.0

Flagship Samsung devices ranging from the Galaxy S21 series to the upcoming Galaxy Z Fold 5 and Flip 5 foldables are eligible for the One UI 6.0 update, based on Android 14. In addition, there are a lot of Galaxy handsets launched with Android 12, which are also on the list!

One UI 6 is becoming the biggest reason, which is forcing me to purchase the S23 Ultra, but, I’ll continue using my S22 Ultra as a daily driver. Upgrade to the Galaxy Z Fold 5 will be highly fruitful for me, since, Samsung won’t be taking much time to expand One UI 6 Beta for older models.

One UI 6.0 Features

All the Security and Privacy related features and improvements of Android 14 will be included with the One UI 6.0 update. Samsung doesn’t rely on Google’s Android when it comes to the user interface as Galaxies offer the best and clean user experience with One UI.

We are too away from the One UI 6’s tentative development timeline, but, Samsung should now work on app icons, stock launcher, quick settings panel, and notification panel. Most users want a radically renovated user interface in One UI, as it’s continuing with refinements and refinements.

Samsung One UI 6.0

One UI 6.0 Eligible devices

In the Galaxy Z series, Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold 4, Galaxy Z Flip 4, Galaxy Z Fold 3, and Galaxy Z Flip 3 are eligible for the new OS. In the Galaxy S series, the Galaxy S23 series will get One UI 6 first, however, it will also be rolled out to the Galaxy S22 series and Galaxy S21 series (FE included).

Samsung offers two major Android upgrades to every Galaxy device (from Galaxy A, M, and F lineups). It means, if your device launched with Android 12 out of the box, it will surely get the Android 14 upgrade. Some A series devices are also eligible for three OS upgrades, hence, check the complete list below:

List of Samsung Galaxy devices eligible for Android 14 (One UI 6.0) update

One UI 6.0 Release Date

Within 2022, the company rolled out the One UI 5.0 update for almost all eligible Galaxy models. And February became a great month for flagship Galaxy devices that received the One UI 5.1 feature drop update. It’s difficult to commit release date of One UI 6.0, while the timeline should be early October.

Post completion of the One UI 5.0 rollout, Samsung promised that it will further strengthen its collaboration with chip makers (i.e. Qualcomm) and Google. As promised, this year, the company will try to deploy One UI even faster and more reliable software for Galaxy.

One UI 6.0 features will reveal throughout the Beta testing, expected to start in August this year, while our wishlist consists of all the features we want Samsung to bring with its Android 14 update this year.

Google kicked off the Android 14 Developer Preview in February and the final release will hopefully happen by August. Samsung has neither joined Google in Preview nor it’s going to be a part of Android 14’s Public Beta testing.

Samsung is expected to release the first One UI 6.0 Beta by August, which will reveal the user interface and features as well. Since there’s a long gap between March and August, we will continue to gather inputs on what could come.

Samsung One UI 6.0 Features Wishlist

Samsung One UI 6.0 Features Wishlist

Here’s our wishlist of One UI 6.0 features:

Seamless Updates [A/B Partition]

It has been a long time since Galaxy consumers are demanding the seamless updates feature. Google Pixel phones adopted this tech years ago, which radically reduces the shutdown time while installing firmware updates. Hopefully, Galaxy devices will get support for seamless updates or the S24 series.

Redesigned user interface elements

The original One UI version was first launched in 2019 and the company introduced a total of five generations excluding point versions. Eye-catching user interface plays a key role in user experience but Samsung seems to be only focussing on refinements, which should change with One UI 6.

Pixel Dynamic Colors

Themed Icons and even the Color Palette feature don’t look appropriate on Galaxy devices. Samsung needs to make significant changes in this aspect as most of the users are not satisfied with One UI’s Material You version. Pay attention, Pixel comes with way better Material You integration than the Galaxy.

Refined animations and visual effects

The Korean tech giant brought new visual effects and improved animations with the One UI 5.0. But when compared to Apple iOS, it appears Samsung is far behind in optimization. Flagship phones undoubtedly offer great animations but Apple manages to offer the same experience on all models.

One UI Boot animation

Samsung is the world’s biggest smartphone vendor and the biggest spreader of Android operating system. With the One UI 5.1, it has added One UI animation which appears at the time of app optimization. However, Samsung One UI 6.0 should bring One UI’s native boot animation to Galaxy devices.

Tabular icons and large folder

MIUI 14 introduces tabular icons and large folder features (via RPRNA) as part of renovating the home screen experience. Large folders became part of almost every Android skin developed by China-based vendors, however, the tabular icons are a step ahead. Samsung should consider bringing such kind of home screen tweaks.

Multi user profiles

Multi-user profiles feature was sadly ditched from the One UI 5.0 due to unknown reasons. We hoped One UI 5.1 could bring back the function but it didn’t happen. There’s no input on why the company is not bringing this useful feature to Galaxy devices, and we hope it will come back with One UI 6.0

Native app lock

Norton app lock has over 5 million installations on Google Play Store and most of the users are from Samsung and Google. Chinese ROMs such as MIUI bring a native app lock feature in order to allow users to give another protection shield on certain apps to share the phone with others hassle-free.

Leaving Google aside, One UI 6.0 should include the native app lock feature so users won’t have to get any third-party applications from app markets. Secure folder works pretty well, but an app lock’s usability is far away from this limited function.

Passkeys for native apps

Dashlane confirmed that its native app will get passkeys support following the final release of Android 14. Since the One UI 6.0 will be based on Android 14, we hope, Samsung won’t leave this feature behind or keep limited to flagship devices or certain models.

Emoji wallpaper generator

Android 14 DP2 brings an excellent new feature, allowing Pixel users to create wallpaper based on emojis. There’s a new emoji lab added in the native wallpaper section, where user can pick up their preferred emojis and combine them in an image background to create wallpaper. One UI 6.0 should bring this feature to Samsung phones.

We will continue to add more features to our wishlist. If you have your own expectations with One UI 6, feel free to share them with us through the details given below.

Android 14 Developer Preview 2 is available for Pixel smartphones, which brings two Samsung One UI-inspired features including “Auto confirm unlock” and “Flash screen notifications.” Let’s have a quick look over what Google’s preparing for Pixels, which is already available in Galaxy.

Auto confirm unlock

Samsung One UI lets users get access to their phone from the lock screen by just putting in the right PIN code. Pixel phones, on the other hand, don’t have a such smart function as users have no other option than hitting the “OK” or “→” buttons even after filling out the right PIN code.

Android 14 Developer Preview 2 adds a new toggle, allowing Pixel smartphone users to bypass the additional step to get the phone unlocked. Meanwhile, the company is keeping this feature limited to at least a 6-digit PIN to unlock the device without tapping OK.

Flash screen notifications

Samsung’s One UI software has had the Edge Lighting feature for a long time. When enabled, the screen works like an LED light to let the smartphone user know about the new notifications. not that all, there are a handful of customization options too, which brings great experience.

Android 14’s version of Edge Lighting is a quite basic feature for Pixel devices. Google just added 12 colors that can be used to blink on the entire display to notify about notifications. The lack of additional tools makes it outdated when compared to the One UI.

One UI 6

Based on the Android 14 operating system, Samsung will introduce the next version of One UI later this year. The Galaxy S23 series will be the initial receiver of the One UI 6.0 software later this year, and we believe Samsung will make it epic as well.

Google rolled out the second Developer Preview of Android 14 for Pixel smartphones. Android 14 DP2 brings a lot of new and unique features to Pixel devices, one of which is Emoji Wallpapers.

Several features of Android 14 DP2 are not visible by default, but tipster Mishaal Rahman has discovered a feature that is exclusive to Pixel phones i.e Emoji Wallpapers. The package name of this new feature is “com.google.android.apps.emojiwallpaper” and it needs the feature flag “com.google.android.feature.PIXEL_EXPERIENCE” to be declared.

ANDROID 14 EMOJI WALLPAPERS

Emoji Wallpaper! Its name itself tells us its functionality. This feature allows you to create a wallpaper of 14 emojis with Android 14 on Pixel devices. This means that you can make a wallpaper by selecting the emoji of your choice.

In the Emoji Wallpaper app, you can select emoji, patterns, and colors to create a new wallpaper. Also, you can click on the Randomize button to generate a randomized emoji wallpaper. However, there are different patterns available for Wallpapers – Mosaic, Lotus, Stacks, Sprinkle, and Prism.

Once the wallpaper is created according to your own, then press Save. Now, you can easily set it on your smartphone’s home or lock screen, just need to visit Settings >> Wallpapers & Style >> Wallpapers >> Emoji Lab.

Notably, the feature is not enabled by the default in Android 14 Developers Preview so but the tipster found it. So it is not confirmed whether Google will release it with stable Android 14 or not.

One UI 6.0 Roadmap, based on Android 14

In February, Google initiated the journey of Android 14 through Developer Preview 1 release. Further, the company released the second Developer Preview update on March 8 and the new OS would enter Public Beta testing by the end of next month or early April.

The search engine giant hopes to start Public Beta testing of Android 14 nearly April, while Samsung may not join the party among others. Every year, Samsung’s Android testing for Galaxy begins nearby the stable release of the new operating system.

Android 14 Roadmap DP2

Android 14 may get three major Beta version updates before reaching the Platform Stability 1 mark. There is also a possibility of some incremental/hotfix updates between the major Beta releases. If everything goes perfectly, Google may be able to deliver Android 14 by August this year.

One UI 6.0 Roadmap [Prediction]

Like the One UI 5, Samsung should start the One UI 6 Beta testing on the Galaxy S23 before August 2023. The Galaxy S23 series will be the first to receive the Android 14 Beta firmware, possibly in seven countries including the US, South Korea, India, Germany, the UK, Poland, and China.

It’s likely that the Galaxy S23 series may reach the stability milestone in three to four Beta builds, however, time will tell. Android 13-based One UI 5 was released on October 24, however, we predict, the company may start the rollout of the new One UI 6 in early October.

Yesterday, Google released the Android 14 Developer Preview 2 to Pixel devices. The 2nd development build suggests that Samsung could make Task Killer apps useless with the One UI 6.0 update this year.

According to the information, Google is preparing to severely limit the functionality of apps that claim to make your phone faster by killing background tasks, starting with the upcoming Android 14 OS.

As smartphones are now being shipped with more RAM and internal storage along with faster chipsets and in-built multitasking abilities, Google appears to end the existence of task-killer apps with Android 14.

Apps shouldn’t use the killBackgroundProcesses API or otherwise attempt to influence the process lifecycle of other apps, even on older OS versions. Android is designed to keep cached apps in the background and kill them automatically when the system needs memory. If your app kills other apps unnecessarily, it can reduce system performance and increase battery consumption by requiring full restarts of those apps later, which takes significantly more resources than resuming an existing cached app.

Android 14 DP2 update restricts access to a certain API that has been used by these task-killer apps to kill all background processes for a certain app, which Samsung could follow in One UI 6.0.

Task Killer app can boost your phone’s speed and performance for a short period of time by stopping running apps and services. However, you feel that your phone arrives back at the laggy stage just after a 5-minute gap.

Google says, “It isn’t possible for a 3rd-party application to improve the memory, power, or thermal behavior of an Android device. You should ensure that your app is compliant with Google Play’s policy against misleading claims.”

One UI 6.0

Samsung will hopefully introduce the Android 14-based One UI 6.0 version later this year. The company could start the Public Beta for Galaxy devices sometime before the official release of Android 14, followed by a Stable release likely in October 2023.

Google made Android 14 official in early February and plans to begin the distribution for the public in the third quarter of the year. The One UI 6 Beta is a future thing, but which Samsung devices will be supported for it?

One UI was first introduced in 2019, and since then, Samsung runs its own Beta testing for Galaxy devices every year. No doubt, the company will bring One UI 6, based on Android 14, expected to roll out for Galaxy flagships later this year. With Android 13, the company achieved its fastest rollout in history and future rollouts would hopefully amaze the industry and fans. This year, the Galaxy S23 will be the first Samsung devices to get the Beta/Stable update of Android 14.

In 2022, Samsung started the One UI 5 Beta program a few days ahead of the official Android 13 release. Chinese phone makers managed to deploy the Stable version with their custom skins ahead of Samsung, but the company has concluded the rollout in 2022 itself.

The recently released Galaxy S23 flagship will first get the Android 14-based One UI 6 Beta. To be specific, we will tell you which device will get the One UI 6 Beta this year.

Samsung One UI 6 Beta:

  • S23, S23 Plus and S23 Ultra
  • S22, S22 Plus and S22 Ultra
  • Z Fold 4 and Z Flip 4
  • S21, S21 Plus and S21 Ultra
  • Z Fold 3 and Z Flip 3

Chinese promotion aside, Samsung proved that it is the best non-Google Android vendor which offers user-friendly Beta testing. Do note that the Beta firmware includes some bugs due to experimental and undeveloped features, therefore, if you don’t want any bugs, stay on the Stable build.

Apart from Galaxy flagships, the Korean tech giant also expands the One UI Beta Program to select Galaxy A and M series smartphones.
