Samsung One UI 5.1 is a massive performance booster for Galaxy devices and there’s one hidden screenshot feature that comes in handy.

This new screenshot feature appears as an addition to your brand-new Samsung One UI 5.1. Once installed, you can find it in the quick settings.

But first, you need to do some customizations. Navigate to your phone’s home screen and drop down the quick settings. Next, you need to tap on the three dots in the top right corner of the screen.

Select “Edit buttons”. From the available buttons area, tap and hold on to the “Take screenshot” button. Do remember that you need to touch and hold (simultaneously) and drag the button among the quick settings icons.

You can reposition the button at the same time. Once positioned, you will have to touch “Done” in the bottom right corner to finalize the changes. There you have it, your new screenshot button in easy to access place.

Take a quick Screenshot:

For me, the screenshot is a time-saving and easy-to-send information feature. And I think a lot of users would agree with me on this subject.

Therefore, the entry of a quick screenshot button inside the quick setting made things easy. Also, it has reduced some burden on those physical side keys that I need to press to get the job done.

Yes, the palm swipe to capture is there but I have a hard time using that feature.

Now, all I need to do is to open the quick settings panel and touch on the added ‘Take screenshot’ button and it will capture the screen for me.

This is what I’ve looking for and now, as a proud owner of the Samsung Galaxy Note 20 Ultra, One UI 5.1 made the screenshot process so easy that I only need to fetch out S Pen when there’s a need to mark something special.

Otherwise, you are ready to take a screenshot, anytime anywhere.

Last year, Samsung released the One UI 5.0 software update for Galaxy Note 20 series and the software comes with a huge list of features and improvements over the past version. Today, I am going to share my Samsung Galaxy Note 20 Ultra user experience with One UI 5.0 before I upgrade to the latest One UI 5.1.

Just to mention, I am not going to go formal here and won’t talk about every feature in the list. Instead, there will be the key major changes in Samsung Galaxy Note 20 Ultra that I’ve noticed after upgrading to One UI 5.0 from One UI 4.1.

Let’s begin.

Fluency:

This is the first and a really major improvement on One UI 5.0 that made my impression great about this upgrade. After installation and about 4 months of exploration, my discovery leads me to the conclusion that “One UI 5.0” has improved the fluency at least twice as the past version.

To begin with, I’ve noticed that the on-screen interactions and system response are quicker than One UI 4.1. Interestingly, the changes in quick response expand further when you switch the motion smoothness and keep it on 120Hz.

The new upgrade enhances the overall rendering time and provides an even smoother performance. Again, it’s not only the fluidity that appears in UI elements, it’s the touch response that you receive once you tap on any button or try to swipe or slide on the screen.

Another example of this finding brings us to the notification panel, which is more efficient in terms of grouping. But, there’s one annoying bug that sometimes triggers an entire application, when you try to expand a notification group.

The task execution part has received an overhaul, and the occasional app lag is now completely gone.

User interface:

This part has a place in my list because the improved dynamic theme is blended better into the UI. However, the themed icon is still missing some miles to measure.

Lock Screen:

The lock screen feature is revamped completely with One UI 5.0. The Korean phone maker has achieved a similar effect to the latest iOS version.

Speaking of effects, the new lock offers a fresh set of options to enhance the overall lock screen. However, the most intriguing part of the new addition is the new font and color customizations.

These two are the key aspect of the new lock screen and Samsung has achieved the perfect result.

Samsung Keyboard:

With One UI 5.0, Samsung Keyboard has achieved new potential with new emojis. I’ve experienced that Samsung Keyboard on my Note 20 Ultra brings a better learning curve for all types of maneuvers that you can pull from your fingers.

So, there you have it, my take on Samsung Galaxy Note 20 Ultra with One UI 5.0 before I switch to One UI 5.1. Yes, you could have a different opinion about One UI 5.0 and we encourage you to share them via Twitter.

Last month, One UI 5.1 launched with the brand-new Samsung Galaxy S23 series. Within 15 days, Samsung installed One UI 5.1 in past Galaxy devices including the Galaxy S22 lineup.

Samsung has made several improvements in the feature and system settings to provide you with a better user experience over One UI 5.0. However, consumers have different perspectives and opinions about this software.

But most Samsung Galaxy smartphone owners eagerly waited to grab the One UI 5.1 update to appear on their notification corner. Samsung also understands the excitement among previous device owners and released the update in a fast manner. The expansion is underway and it will make its way to more Samsung smartphones.

Meanwhile, Samsung is sending One UI 5.1 for the Galaxy S22 series, S21 series, Note 20 series, Fold 4, Flip 4, and more. A praisable part of the story reveals that carrier-locked models of these top devices in the U.S. also ignited a fast OTA package.

The new Samsung One UI 5.1 additions include new quick color tone changes for selfies, as well as new optimizations for Expert RAW to take high-quality shots. The image remastering feature is also getting a new kick-in performance.

Moreover, Samsung has revamped the photograph info display, you can now see when and where the picture was captured and which device took the image. Samsung also brought in new multi-tasking optimization, allowing you to easily minimize or switch to full screen without going into the options menu.

Modes, Routines, weather, and Samsung Internet are also in line to upgrade with One UI 5.1 upgrade. Other important aspects of this update also include a new battery widget but there is a lot more that you can explore after installing One UI 5.1.

How to check:

Eligible device owners can continue their search for new firmware via Settings, from here you can navigate to the consequent screen and click on “Download and install”. If there’s an update available, your Galaxy device will initiate the download.

So, have you installed One UI 5.1 on your Samsung Galaxy smartphone? Let us know via the tweet below.

One UI 5.1 is a massive improvements update for Samsung Galaxy devices but even this version can’t save the themed icons from this continuous unimprovement in appearance.

Google’s Material You was first introduced with Android 12 and is one of the best addition to Android smartphones. This capability is widely known for its adaptive user interface theme. You need to select a new wallpaper and the system will generate a palette based on the wallpaper’s color.

The palette then applies throughout the phone’s UI elements including Settings, quick settings panel, dialer, and system applications. Material you also consist of themed icons, once enabled, the feature lets you apply the color palette to app icons.

Samsung is also using Material You since the very beginning, yet the phone maker has not focused on improving themed icons with the One UI 5.1. This is a massive disappointment as a Samsung user and also one with stock Android.

What’s the issue?

To find out, let’s take a look at the comparison between One UI and stock Android-themed icons. To make it a fair comparison, I’ve set the same wallpaper on both of the devices. Left one is Samsung and the right is Google Pixel.

Samsung One UI 5.1 themed icons

In One UI, the color palette generated for app icons is bright and has high contrast. The light background of the icon is creating an uneasy contrast combination with the logo inside the background.

The unequal logo size of the different apps is also contributing. For instance, Play Store and Gallery logos have different sizes and padding, as well as the Samsung Browner logo.

Coming to the stock Android, the software has adapted Material You on most of the Android apps. Android’s color palette is generating soft colors for the background shape and a dark tone for the logo. Noticeably, the icon collaborates with the color theme, thus establishing a good synergy between the background and the logo inside.

Moreover, the icon weight and logo padding are almost equal among all of the system apps, which makes for a perfect viewing experience.

Just to mention, Samsung is using themed icons across the launcher. On the flip side, stock Android keeps it limited to the home screen.

Samsung One UI app launcher and stock Android

There are some notable fixes required for Samsung to get used to the new themed icons but One UI 5.1 is just another miss.

Even Google admits that Samsung is now the king of Android software update providers but recently, Samsung also cemented this statement with action by delivering a fast One UI 5.1 rollout.

One UI 5.1 first appeared with the Samsung Galaxy S23 series on February 1 at the Unpacked event. These phones can harmonize the power of One UI 5.1 to provide a better user experience for S23 buyers.

This unveiling also raised expectations for old device owners. To note, Samsung confirmed on the S23 launch stage that the company won’t forget its past Galaxy flagship users. Therefore, the South Korean phone maker initiated the One UI 5.1 rollout at a fast pace for the Galaxy S22 series within 15 days of the S23 launch.

Isn’t that something amazing? Not only that, Samsung quickly expanded the release for Fold 4, Flip 4, S21, and other devices.

One UI 5.1 comes with a lot of new features over One UI 5.0. It’s a speed and optimization upgrade for users looking to bring something new into their Galaxy smartphones.

Fast rollout:

It may not feel new to some of the readers but the fact is that Samsung is winning against the odds in terms of releasing software updates for Galaxy phones in all countries and regions.

However, there are still some miles to measure for carrier-locked devices in important places such as the U.S. Since mobile networks have their own process to verify a software build, we can’t argue their liability on this matter.

But the increasing speed of Samsung’s rollout of Android-based One UI software is actively appearing on monthly security patches and system improvements that the company seeds in posted schedules to not miss any mark.

All and all, it’s a big win for customers who spent money on a new Samsung Galaxy smartphone and get great software support as an after sale service.

Samsung is showcasing new technologies at MWC 2023 event, and the company has revealed that its Galaxy S23 Ultra model has accounted for 60% percent of the entire S23 pre-orders.

In an interview with CNBC, Patrick Chomet, executive vice president at Samsung Electronics revealed that Galaxy S23 is far better than S22 in terms of sales.

According to the VP, Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra accounts for around 60% of the overall global pre-orders of the entire S23 lineup. These are amazing statics and achievement.

“So we are on the premium segment, despite the difficult economic environment, we see a steady opportunity for us. And the reason is we are very competitive because we have brought a lot of innovation in that segment,” said Chomet.

Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra is the top model in the series, packs high-end specs, and a top-notch camera system. The South Korean phone maker has invested in heavy technologies from hardware to software to provide a better user experience for consumers.

Looking at the current trends, Chomet said that Samsung is moving towards double-digit growth in the premium smartphone segment in 2023. Therefore, the Samsung Galaxy S23 series is likely to play a pivotal role in the company’s growth.

“We expect, kind of, a healthy portion of the mix, to be skewed toward the premium,” Chomet added.

2022 was a tough year for Samsung as the operating profit of the consumer business fell 16 percent during the year. Samsung is still the largest Android phone maker in the world and its premium devices are in demand.

While talking about the popularity of the Galaxy S23 Ultra, Chomet said that the pre-orders are an indication that the smartphone market in the premium segment is still very hopeful. As there are a lot of people considering new phones with quality.

Samsung One UI 5.1 is a fantastic upgrade for the Galaxy smartphones, It comes with various features, and it would be suitable if we call it a perfect appetizer ahead of a full meal of One UI 6.

One UI 5.1 comes with a variety of new additions to the camera for changing color tone. It has better Expert RAW features, better search in the Gallery app, also enhanced image remastering inside your Galaxy phone, and more.

Aside from that, there are optimizations made to the full screen and app window, split screen, and the almighty DeX. Nonetheless, One UI 5.1 brings you better modes and routines, which will allow you to change wallpapers based on your current activity. You are also able to use new actions for quick sharing, touch sensitivity, and more.

This Samsung One UI 5.1 appetizer makes your Galaxy phone’s weather nice and cozy with quick access to weather alerts, daily weather summaries, and sunrise and sunset times. And there are additional features of the weather app that will improve its use cases.

I see this new version of One UI as a Samsung Internet app booster, why? Because it has a brand new smart feature called “Continue browsing”. This capability lets you resume a webpage on a different Samsung device. All you need to do is to sync the Samsung ID into another Samsung smartphone and VoilĂ ! You will get a continuous web browsing experience.

Lastly, there are some important enhancements made throughout the Settings menu. Yet there’s one specific change that you must know. Yeah, it’s the new battery widget, which is something new for the One UI universe.

One UI 6:

One UI 5.1 is a massive appetizer and will keep your expectations stuffed with this super list of features until Samsung brings out One UI 6 in the second half of this year.

Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra is an amazing smartphone and if you have already received a new unit, then hop on this train and let’s first customize its important side key features.

Similar to its predecessors, Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra has some default settings, this includes the side key options for double press and press & hold. For example, the double press is set to Quick launch camera, and the press & hold action is set to wake up the Bixby voice assistant.

To change the side key features of your Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra. First, open up the Settings menu, tap on “Advanced Features” go to “Side key” and check the following.

You can enable or disable the double press by using the slider. The default option is Quick launch camera but you can also assign this action to open an app or a system feature, such as a torch.

Below, you can also change the press and hold from Bixby to the power menu, if you want your beloved side key to provide traditional convenience.

Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra Side Key features

Should I turn Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra’s side into a power button?

Samsung has already arranged a virtual power key on the quick panel. Alternatively, you can also turn off the phone by pressing the side key and volume down combination. Furthermore, you have the option to say “Turn off the phone” Bixby voice command to shut down the device.

Controversial Side Key:

The history of Samsung’s power key and its controversy is not unknown to the people who owned a Samsung Galaxy S8 or later device. For starters, the Galaxy S8 and the following models dedicated the physical side key to a Bixy trigger.

This change caused mayhem among consumers, as the key was pressed accidentally, and each time, it was causing a disturbance in the user experience. After feedback, Samsung rolled out a Bixby update that allowed them to trigger Bixby on double press.

After a year, Samsung stepped backward and launched a feature to freely customize the power key to assign both double press and press and hold features.

Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra is a camera beast and brings a massive upgrade in features as compared to S22 Ultra but the design of this successor needs to be explored. In that case, we’ll have to do a comparison.

For your information, this comparison will look into the structure, layout, shape, lens count, and some key specifications of the rear camera module.

Design:

First comes the Galaxy S22 Ultra, which features a quad camera including a laser autofocus sensor and an LED flash. This system has two columns, the left side starts with a 12MP ultra wide-angle camera, followed by a 108MP wide-angle/main camera and the third one is a 10MP 10x periscope zoom camera.

The second column consists of a laser autofocus, an LED flash, and a secondary telephoto camera, capable of 3x zoom. Actually, the S22 Ultra resembles the S21 Ultra but without that large camera bump.

(Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra – Left, Galaxy S22 Ultra – Right)

Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra and Galaxy S22 Ultra Camera

Successor?

If you look closely at the S23 Ultra, the difference between the camera structure and the aesthetics is barely noticeable. Because the Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra willfully carries the camera design and layout from the S22 Ultra. Specifically, the first and second columns are identical in both devices. This is causing a variation in opinion among consumers who were expecting a major makeover.

Speaking of major, this flagship stands as a 200MP camera powerhouse. Using a super-resolution sensor, Samsung promises high-quality photography and robust optical image stabilization in videos.

Elegant Tweaks:

Aside from the layout and lens, Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra brings a brand-new silver outsole ring. This tweak makes the entire module big, bulky, and elegant as compared to the past version.

In terms of appearance, this premium device strikes full marks for those new optimizations and it will definitely catch your eyes on the first look.

Since the very beginning, Samsung phones comes with app folders, this feature continued with One UI but I recently met with a new app folder thanks to a Good Lock add-on.

Creating an app folder is simple, you need to drag and hold an app icon on another app icon until it overlaps. Then, release the hold to form a folder.

To access the app inside, you first need to open the folder and then tap on the app icon. The default app folder background overlay takes an entire screen, which feels outdated similar to stock Android.

Popup App Folder:

But there is a different approach and Good Lock allowed me to revamp the entire app folder with the new Popup Folder feature. After being enabled, the app folder will pop up with app icons inside a background shape. And this doesn’t block the entire screen.

This varies from the default app folder to provide fast interactions. Also, the corresponding popup and popout animations are also fluent, which looks good.

New Samsung One UI app folder

How to use:

If you want to use the popup app folder feature on your Samsung One UI device, open the Good Lock app, and select the “HomeUp” plugin. If the plugin is not installed, the app will ask you to download it from Galaxy Store.

Tap on Home Up and select “Folder”, now enable the slider right in front of the Popup folder. That’s it, you’ve now changed to the brand-new Samsung One UI app folder.

Customizations:

That’s not it, Popup folder lets you do more customizations and these are quite amazing tweaks to try. There’s font customization in white and black color. You can also change the background shape color or play with the sliders to manage background transparency and shape radius.

new customizations

So, this is how I met the new Samsung One UI app folder, and it’s time for you to meet yours.
