On February 01, Samsung officially announced One UI 5.1 based on Android 13 with Galaxy S23 series at the Galaxy Unpacked event 2023. It brings new features and enhancements over One UI 5.0 to provide a next level experience.

At the moment, almost all stock apps and Good Lock modules already got One UI 5.0 support and started getting One UI 5.1 support. The reason for updating Good Lock modules is to make them compatible with the latest version.

When a new major update is released for any smartphone, it brings many functions and changes, so sometimes some applications don’t work properly or start crashing. But Samsung does provide support to the apps so that no such issues arise.

According to a Business Korea report, Samsung Elec’s US chip subsidiary – Device Solutions Americas (DSA) lays off 3 percent of total employees. Sources claim that Samsung DSA notified all of its employees at US business about the plans to cut 3 percent of its staff due to “uncertain economic conditions”.

It’s noteworthy that the total number of employees at Samsung Device Solutions Americas is 1,200, of which about 30 employees (3 percent) were to be subject to layoffs. This move comes as the overall semiconductor industry hit a recession in the aftermath of a decline in demand.

In the previous quarter, the South Korean tech giant recorded $204 million in operating profit in the semiconductor division. Compared to the fourth quarter of 2021, the profit declined by a whopping 96.9 percent, which could continue to decline in the first quarter of this year as well.

How to use Samsung Camera Assistant:

All you need to have is a compatible Galaxy smartphone and Good Lock app installed in it. Now open the “Good Lock” app, visit its “Life up” page, and tap the download button beside “Camera Assistant.” The following options will appear:

Auto HDR:

It is a feature that lets you capture more details in your pictures and videos in a bright and dark environment. To use it, all you need to do is just turn the toggle on.

Picture softening:

The picturing softening tools are available for customers who prefer a soft picture texture rather than the Galaxy camera’s default picture quality, which offers you pictures with detailed and sharp textures.

There are two softening tones to choose from – Medium and High. You can choose the one according to your preferences and if you are not a person who likes soft images, can simply turn it off.

Auto lens switching:

Once you turn the toggle of this feature on, your Galaxy phone will automatically pick the best lens based on zoom, lighting, and distance to the subject. This way, you can capture the best shots, no matter the time, place, or environment.

Quick tap stutter:

The quick tap shutter is a new addition to Camera Assistant that improved the users’ shooting experience. It lets you set a photo to be taken immediately the moment your finger touches the capture button, rather than the moment it realizes.

Capture speed:

This feature allows you to set the priority between image quality and capture speed. If you want to shoot quickly for capturing the moment rather than the quality you can try the “Prioritize speed” option.

Meanwhile, you can choose “Prioritize quality” for the best pictures or “Balance speed and quality” for faster capturing without sacrificing too much quality.

Video recording in Photo mode:

The name itself tells its use, it lets you record videos in photo mode. All you need is to touch and hold the shutter button to record videos after you have enabled the toggle.

Timer multi-photo options:

By default, the camera of your Galaxy phone takes one photo with the timer mode. But with this feature enables, you can shoot continuously at regular shooting intervals without having to press the shooting button again.

Camera timeout:

You can choose the camera timeout time here. Once you set it, your phone will automatically close the camera app. You can choose between – 1, 2,5, or 10 minutes options.

Dim screen while recording:

This feature will save the battery of your phone by setting the screen brightness to low when recording video for a long time.

Clean previous on HDMI displays:

Once turned on, this feature will show you the camera preview without settings or buttons on HDMI-connected displays.

Similar to its predecessors, Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra has some default settings, this includes the side key options for double press and press & hold. For example, the double press is set to Quick launch camera, and the press & hold action is set to wake up the Bixby voice assistant.

To change the side key features of your Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra. First, open up the Settings menu, tap on “Advanced Features” go to “Side key” and check the following.

You can enable or disable the double press by using the slider. The default option is Quick launch camera but you can also assign this action to open an app or a system feature, such as a torch.

Below, you can also change the press and hold from Bixby to the power menu, if you want your beloved side key to provide traditional convenience.

Should I turn Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra’s side into a power button?

Samsung has already arranged a virtual power key on the quick panel. Alternatively, you can also turn off the phone by pressing the side key and volume down combination. Furthermore, you have the option to say “Turn off the phone” Bixby voice command to shut down the device.

This change caused mayhem among consumers, as the key was pressed accidentally, and each time, it was causing a disturbance in the user experience. After feedback, Samsung rolled out a Bixby update that allowed them to trigger Bixby on double press.

After a year, Samsung stepped backward and launched a feature to freely customize the power key to assign both double press and press and hold features.

The One UI 5.1 update makes it easier to change the color tone while taking selfies. It adds a new toggle at the top right corner of the camera viewfinder so users can easily adjust the color tone. Samsung Gallery’s Image Remaster feature is now also capable of enhancing the upscaling GIF files. You can enhance the quality and sharpness of low-quality GIF files using the new GIF Remaster feature to get even better colors and details.

Bixby Text Call

Samsung introduced the Bixby Text Call feature with the One UI 5.0 iteration. So far, it was available in just the Korean language, but, thanks to the One UI 5.1 update, Bixby Text Call now supports the English language too. US users can now utilize this intelligent AI call assistant feature.

Bixby Text Call feature is inspired by Google’s Call Screen feature. It allows you to attend a call without having verbal communication. When you get an incoming call, you can receive it through the Bixby Text Call feature, it will convert the person’s voice into text and read aloud your text to the person.

Widgets

Galaxy ecosystem includes Galaxy smartphone, smartwatch, earbuds, S Pen, and more. You can now check how much juice is remaining in your phone as well as all connected devices such as Galaxy Watch, Galaxy Buds and S Pen on the home screen through the Battery Status Widget.

Dynamic Weather widget also got enhancements and now shows graphical animation based on your location’s weather conditions such as snowing, raining, and cloudy. Last but not least, the Smart Suggestions widget now recommends Spotify tracks as per your habits.

One UI is the best Android skin when it comes to customization. Taking the user experience to another level, the One UI 5.1 software brings enhancements to the Pop-up view and Split screen view. In Pop-Up view, you can now drag and drop the window edges to change the size, while there’s a new section that shows the Most used apps in Split view.
