Icons are the most crucial part of the user interface. Everywhere we interact with system functions and applications, icons play a key role over the text guide. Samsung One UI already features neat and clean app icons across the user interface, but, you can also try out iOS-styled icons on your Galaxy device.

The One UI software doesn’t have the ability to alter the design or shape of the app and function icons. It becomes a disappointing thing for Galaxy consumers, but we have a cool way so you can turn app icons from a big hidden directory to choose from.

How to activate hidden customizer

First, open the Good Lock app, followed by the Theme Park application (if you don’t have these apps already, download them from Galaxy Store). Do note that the installation of Good Lock is necessary to get access to Theme Park, so don’t waste time bypassing steps.

Theme Park is the only way to alter icon design on Samsung Galaxy devices. One UI doesn’t allow you to easily change the shape, style, or layout of app icons, but Good Lock makes it possible. Theme Park could bring you what you want, but, it doesn’t work perfectly on all apps.

How to apply iOS-shaped icons

To apply iOS-shaped icons on the One UI interface, open the Theme Park application from Apps Screen. Navigate to the Icon tab through the bottom bar and hit that interactive “+ Create New” button.

Apart from the ability to download Iconpack through Galaxy Themes, the interface allows you to create your own iconpack using Shape, Icon Color, Tray color, and Size functions.

Samsung iOS icons Samsung iOS icons Samsung iOS icons

The pre-selected shape is the original One UI icon shape, while the second is circular, which looks a lot similar to Google’s stock Android experience. For iOS-shaped icons, you have to select the “fourth” option, and voila!

The large icons preview interface will display nine app icons so you can customize further before applying finally. After customizing the Icon color, Tray color, and Size, you have to hit the “↓” Download icon and give a name.

Put the name as per your preference and tap OK. After short processing, you will be redirected to the page from where you began the customization journey where you should see your own created Iconpack.

Now, tap on the icon pack you just created to apply to your phone’s by-default settings. Finally, hit the “Apply” toggle and let the Theme Park do magic and turn the shape of the original One UI icons to iOS-inspired.

Samsung offers tons of features for its Galaxy devices to customize almost everything, even a small lock icon on the lock screen. Currently, Samsung is busy in rolling out its mature software One UI 5.1 based on Android 13 for eligible Galaxy devices. On the other hand, Google already started testing Android 14 and Apple releases iOS beta updates throughout the year, so why is Samsung lagging behind with One UI?

If we talk about Apple, then it pushes regular iOS beta updates so that users can get an error-free service. The company gives its users the opportunity to test the upcoming new iOS features before the stable release throughout the year. Samsung should also follow the footprints of Apple to provide a regular One UI beta update for testing new features.

Samsung One UI iOS beta

Obviously, it is difficult for Samsung to roll out a One UI beta like Apple’s iOS beta as Google releases only one major update in a year. And based on that new Android version, Samsung initiates testing its One UI Beta which lasts only for a short period of time.

But Samsung can make some significant changes according to its own so that when a new Android OS stable will arrive, it can be easily deployed by Samsung for Galaxy devices. Samsung can also begin One UI beta update along with Google so whenever the Korean tech giant delivers its new custom skin then users can get a bug-free and better experience.

Samsung can start the One UI beta program only for limited flagship models including Galaxy S23, Galaxy S22, Galaxy S21, Galaxy Z Fold 4, Galaxy Z Flip 4, Galaxy Z Fold 3, and Galaxy Z Flip 3, also in the limited beta testing countries.

Samsung One UI iOS beta

The question is why should Samsung run iOS beta like One UI beta for a whole year? Is there any benefit from this? Yes, it has benefits. If Samsung runs the One UI beta throughout the year, it will be able to provide a bug-free service through its stable updates as well as enhance the stability.

Most importantly, Galaxy users can enjoy the upcoming features of the new Android OS ahead like Pixel devices. As of now, Pixel devices have started enjoying the features of Android 14 while Samsung will start testing these features in August or September and the stable release will be in October or November.

No doubt, Samsung Galaxy phones are unbeatable in the Android segment. On the flip side, Apple rules the second world without having any single competitor in iOS world. In some cases, iOS provides better experiences than Android, so if a Samsung Galaxy device run iOS 16, will you purchase it?

iOS 16 on Samsung Galaxy, it’s really a crazy question as it’s impossible to happen… We are sure, the Korean tech giant will never adopt the iOS operating system even if lefts as the last option. Instead, the company will build its own operating system tailor-made for Galaxy devices.

Android and iOS are just two opposite things. As there are a lot of possibilities in the Android operating system, iOS offers only what Apple wants. The former is open-source software, while the latter is closed-source, meanwhile, the security and privacy level of iOS is really great compared to Android.

Just hope, if iOS run on a Samsung Galaxy, the smartphone will become a superphone. With the world’s leading hardware installation and most-secure operating system, the device will become unbeatable. BTW, it’s also impossible to flash iOS operating system or custom ROM on a non-iPhone device.

Samsung Galaxy iOS

As the combination of Galaxy and iOS will never become reality, Samsung should develop its own operating system for the devices. The company has the largest share of Android devices worldwide, it can be further expanded with tailor-made secure and reliable software.

iOS

iOS runs on all Apple iPhone devices and packs useful features to keep the lead. As the operating system is completely limited to Apple labs, it becomes a quite difficult task to affect user data and privacy. Another advantage of exclusive software is that the company amazingly optimizes it with hardware of products.

Samsung Galaxy iOS

Android

Compared to iOS, the Android operating system has endless possibilities. Every year, Google introduces new major versions with user interface enhancements and privacy focused tools for better experiences. However, the open-source factor makes it easy to be hacked due to vulnerabilities.

One UI

Galaxy devices run the Android operating system, but Samsung installs One UI layer alongside. The One UI offers fastest security updates every month, additional privacy features such as Knox along with Android-inspired functions. As the reach of Samsung is growing rapidly, it’s right time to take a decision on Galaxy-exclusive OS.

Android is the most popular and widely used smartphone operating system worldwide. Since Google is the creator of Android, Samsung has a big participation in the spread of this OS. In November 2022, Samsung grabs a stunning 34.6% of the global Android market.

In November 2022, Samsung Galaxy’s share in the global Android market is 34.6%, followed by Xiaomi and OPPO with 14.3% and 10.3% respectively. Aside from top 3 Android vendors, Vivo’s share in the global market is 9.8%, followed by Huawei’s 6.7%, completing the top five chart.

Interestingly, the mid-range smartphone Galaxy A12, which launched last year, is the most popular device running Android OS this month, via AppBrain. In figures for Samsung devices, the Galaxy A12’s share in November 2022 Android market is 2.1%, followed by A21s’s 1% and A10s’s 1%.

Samsung Android market november 2022

These three Samsung Galaxy A series handsets are listed on the November 2022’s Android market chart because of their specifications at a competitive price. The phones offer large displays, well-performing chipsets under the hood, and of course larger batteries for all-day battery life.

When it comes to foldables, Samsung is the undeniable leader of the market with plenty of smartphones in its Galaxy Z lineup. The most recent Galaxy Z Flip 4 and Galaxy Z Fold 4 are making huge money for Samsung, thanks to innovative features, unique form factor, and of course, worldwide availability.

Globally, about 71% of smartphones run the Android operating system, however, this share goes up to 85% in a handful of markets including Brazil, India, Indonesia, Turkey, and Vietnam, via PhoneArena. Since Apple’s share in the global market is too less, iOS recorded an 8% improvement in the last 5 years.

With iOS version 14, Apple introduced a new way called App Library to find and organize the apps so iPhone consumers can see what they want and where they want. In iPhones, we can reach this destination by swiping Left until we get to the App Library.

Inside this section, iOS puts all the apps in different folders category-wise. For example, if you have Instagram installed, then you can find it from a big folder named Social in the App Library. This functionality is amazing, which further become interesting when Huawei managed to copy it for its devices.

iOS App Library

iOS 14 App Library

By introducing HarmonyOS, its self-developed operating system, Huawei presented the Large Folders feature for smartphones. This feature is almost similar to that one iSheeps got with the iOS 14 on their iPhones’ App Library section.

Instead of creating a dedicated page on the homescreen, HarmonyOS introduces the Large Folders feature on the regular pages. Users can easily create Large Folders on the homescreen by just combining two apps together to create a regular folder.

HarmonyOS Homescreen

Huawei P50 Pro

Once done, tap and hold the newly created folder then the OS provides you with an option to Enlarge the folder. The enlarged folder occupies the space of a total of 4 apps (2×2) on the homescreen. The interesting this about this feature is that you will be able to put 9 apps within the same space occupied by 4 apps, thanks to Large Folders.

Apps placed inside the Large Folder can directly be opened from the homescreen, however, you can tap on a Lil bit of blank space in the folder to expand it. Similar to the homescreen and regular folders, we can add even more than 9 apps, that can be found on the 2nd page inside the folder.

Have a look at this feature, in action | Credits – HC Newsroom

While Huawei has further improved the Large Folders functionality with its next-gen HarmonyOS version, other Chinese smartphone vendors have also included the same feature in their custom skins. OPPO (with ColorOS 13) is the most recent entry in the list of OEMs providing the Large Folders feature.

ColorOS 13 Large Folders

ColorOS 13

As OPPO failed to provide a clean appearance to the Large Folders’ functionality, HarmonyOS 3.0 take it to the next level. Well…, Chinese phone makers are introducing new user-friendly features with their custom skins based on the Android operating system, regularly, but, Samsung is far behind.

On the other hand, there’s nothing wonderful addition spotted in the One UI 5.0, based on Android 13 so far. At least, Samsung should add the Large Folders feature with the upcoming builds of the One UI 5.0 software for the Galaxy devices.

If it doesn’t happen, I’m dreaming to use the Large Folders feature with the forthcoming One UI 5.1, based on Android 13, or the Android 14-based One UI 6.0, which will arrive over a year later from now on. What do you think about it? Should Samsung bring the Large Folders feature, let us know through social media.

Google Duo is known for high quality and performance, a lot of people are connected to the digital world with Duo, which provides a platform for people to connect with loved ones located in distant places.

Recently it was reported (Android Police) that Google Duo has touched around 5 billion installs on the play store, which is really huge installs. It works for users’ better experience and convenience. which has made the real world more common.

Google Duo is available on the web and as an app on iPhone, iPad, and Android phones and tablets. Along with that it comes pre-installed with most Android phones. Which makes it a little less effective to reach 5 billion installations. However, as a default video calling application for Android, it certainly gets its share of usage.

Google Duo 5 billion installs

Google Duo is very easy and secure. Well, you can say that Google Duo was Google’s answer to Apple’s FaceTime. While FaceTime only allows iPhone users to connect with other iPhone users, the Duo app makes it easier for iPhone users to play videos for Android users.

We wish Google Duo to progress and achieve double of 5 billion installs soon and provide a better user experience to users, if you want to use Google Duo you can install it through Play Store.

WhatsApp is one of the most widely used messaging services in the world. While it has improved over the years with new features and additions, one major caveat was the inability to transfer conversations across platforms. WhatsApp offers backup and restore functionality but only works when switching from Android to another, or one iPhone to another.

If you were switching from an Android device to an iPhone or vice versa, there was no legal way to transfer your chat history and media from one phone to another. Fortunately, that has changed with the official WhatsApp announcement in the launch of the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 3.

Meanwhile, WhatsApp has released the ability to transfer conversations from iPhone to Android devices. However, only Samsung phones are currently supported, but the feature will be made available on all Android devices soon.

If the new folders from Samsung have confirmed that you have switched to Android from iPhone, here’s how you can transfer all your WhatsApp data, including chats and media, from your old iPhone to your new Android device.

While WhatsApp has published a support article with instructions for transferring WhatsApp data from your old iPhone to your new Android, we have found that the steps mentioned in that article are incorrect, and following them will not help you move your data.

How to Transfer WhatsApp data from iPhone to Android

To migrate your WhatsApp from iPhone to Samsung, simply follow these steps:

  1. Turn on your new Samsung Galaxy smartphone and connect by cable to your iPhone when prompted.
  2. Follow the Samsung Smart Switch experience.
  3. When prompted, scan the QR code displayed on the new device using the iPhone’s camera.
  4. Tap Start on your iPhone and wait for the process to complete.
  5. Continue setting up your new Samsung
  6. When you reach the home screen, open WhatsApp and log in using the same phone number used on your old device.
  7. Tap Import when prompted, and allow the process to complete.
  8. Finish activating your new device and you’ll see your chats waiting for you.

What do I need?

  • Your new Android device must be factory new or reset to factory settings.
  • Samsung SmartSwitch app version 3.7.22.1 or greater on your new device.
  • WhatsApp Android Version 2.21.16.20 or greater on your new device.
  • WhatsApp iOS version 2.21.160.17 or greater on your old device.
  • USB-C to Lightning cable (or equivalent adapters).
  • Use the same phone number on the new device as the old device.

The dark mode is an important feature and it helps you to reduce eye strain and view the entire user interface of your Samsung smartphone efficiently powered by One UI software system. However, Apple devices also have one of the most powerful software optimizations and its user interface is one of the top preferred among consumers, other than Android-based UI’s.

However, One UI has its grade of dominance and Samsung has made the latest One UI 4.0 to make the most out in users’ hands. One UI 4.0 is based on Android 12 and provides you new option to tweak the dark mode feature.

In this edition of the Samsung One UI 4.0 comparison, we’ll focus on the dark mode feature and how it’s different in Apple iOS 15. Let’s jump into it.

One UI 4.0 vs iOS 15 dark mode

iOS 15 Dark Mode:

iOS 15 is the first to talk about, UI features such as quick settings panel, Settings menu, and dialer have essential customization in Dark Mode. In dark mode, the quick settings maintain their color and transparency and blend them into the home screen wallpaper.

The UI is clean and provides you the maximum amount of visibility, while the background has a blurred semi-transparent effect.

iOS 15 has new rounded corner settings menu sections, which weren’t available in iOS 14, and gives it an elegant look. The icons are sharp and easy to identify. Also, the text is clear and has sharp edges.

ios 15 dark mode

One UI 4.0:

Compared to iOS 15, Samsung One UI 4.0 has improved dark mode that appears better on all parts of the corresponding software elements – quick settings, settings menu, dial, and other parts of the user interface.

one ui 4.0

Samsung One UI 4.0 brings better system icons, a sharp font system as well a round-cornered background. In addition, the latest version of One UI also has additional customization – a color palette.

With the color palette, you customize the icon colors and accent of the entire system UI. Thereafter, you can achieve a new look for the Samsung One UI 4.0 device.

On September 10, 2021, WhatsApp end-to-end encrypted backups for Android and iOS devices is officially announced. This feature allows you to further strengthen and protect the privacy of message backups. The Facebook-owned WhatsApp has provided end-to-end encrypted messages for a while now, although that additional security has not been used for backups in the past.

It also does not apply to the media and relies on encryption services provided by a cloud provider that backs up the service. Those cloud providers can explain them and if there is a need that has arisen, and to know privacy, that is obviously very small.

The company has begun testing hidden end-to-end backups in the beta version of WhatsApp, and now, before its extensive release, Facebook has explained exactly how those encrypted backups work.

Join Sammy Fans on Telegram

How WhatsApp’s end-to-end encrypted backups work

Facebook says it has launched a completely new end-to-end encryption system that works on both iOS and Android. Backups are encrypted with a unique, random key, and the key can be saved manually or by a password.

If the user wants to keep your password, they can access the Hardware-security-module-based Backup Key Vault to retrieve their encryption key and delete the backup.

This vault is responsible for enforcing password verification attempts and providing the key to permanent access after many unsuccessful attempts to recover it. This prevents power attacks, and WhatsApp will never know the key.

WhatsApp end-to-end encrypted backups

Storing keys in the Backup Key Vault

WhatsApp uses an earlier service called ChatD, which manages customer communication and customer authentication. It will apply a protocol that sends backup keys to and from WhatsApp servers, as well as the client and key vault exchange encrypted messages.

Backups are performed as a continuous stream of encrypted data – e.g., the encryption key can be used to decrypt it. Once encrypted, backups can be stored anywhere outside the site, including Google Drive or iCloud.

WhatsApp 64-digit encryption key

Facebook says to help address the number of users who rely on WhatsApp, the main vault service will be distributed geographically across all data centers once completed. Facebook also released two graphics that show how end-encryption works when you use a key to delete your backup, or when you use a user password to clear your encryption.

WhatsApp HSM-based Backup Key Vault

Here’s the encryption and decryption process when using a password

If the account owner uses a password to access their backup, then it will work via the following process to retrieve the key from the key vault.

  1. They enter their password, which is encrypted and then verified by the Backup Key Vault.
  2. Once the password is verified, the Backup Key Vault will send the encryption key back to the WhatsApp client.
  3. With the key in hand, the WhatsApp client can then decrypt the backups.

If the 64-bit key alone is what’s being used, then the user will need to manually save and enter the key themselves.
