Samsung is expanding the March 2023 security update to the Galaxy S22 series in more and more markets, globally. Earlier, the company rolled out the One UI 5.1 to Galaxy S22, which didn’t include a fix or improvement for the battery-draining problem, but it’s not the same case in March 2023.

Due to so-called (Exynos, Samsung Foundry) chipset and printing process concerns, select Galaxy S22 units have problems like inefficient battery life and abnormal drain. Users continuously report bad battery performance and overheating issues on their Galaxy S22 (vanilla, Plus, and Ultra).

Everything was fine prior to the December 2022 security patch, which incredibly generated battery life complaints. Samsung tried to fix the problems with January and February firmware updates, but it didn’t happen at all. Consumers hoped, One UI 5.1 will have some enhancements, but, the battery drain remained unfixed.

“5.1 has been optimized.. 29 hours screen off time, never got anywhere near that before & I’ve had this phone since launch” – Source

After installing the March 2023 security patch, some consumers reported that their Galaxy S22 smartphone’s battery efficiency is currently in its best state. Some said that they are having great battery life, which is at its best since the launch.

“Agreed. Had a full day yesterday and didn’t charge my phone once. Didn’t have power saving on for any of it, had auto brightness on, limited at 85% charge. Always On Display on. Not a single problem. OneUI 5.1 has made this phone like new.” – Source

One UI 5.1 included a lot of under-the-hood improvements for Galaxy devices. Since it was a major One UI upgrade, the software system requires some time to get optimized with the hardware, native functions and installed applications.

“Thank you! I have other devices, but as I clearly said I never got screen off/idle time like this before, which is crazy. 2 weeks ago the phone wasn’t making it a whole day (7 am-midnight) now it got 29 hours on idle which is crazy.” – Source

Consumers didn’t praise One UI 5.1’s battery life, but positive feedback started to emerge after Samsung’s March 2023 firmware update. There are two factors; Samsung brought improvements to battery and One UI got optimized with time and new firmware.

“i think the S22U battery gotten better aftet some update or some stuff. charged it this morning at around 30%. and checked the usage, realise it got like 5:30 Screen on time (gaming) and 18 hrs screen off time. seems to be better when i first got it and was actively playing around with battery management stuff. screenshot below, not sure why the post wont let me upload screenshot.” Source
