Moreover, the wired and wireless charging results of the device are average. The phone takes 1 hour and 21 minutes to get charged with wire and 2 hours and 18 minutes when charged wirelessly. Meanwhile, a quick 5 minutes wired charge provides a good 5 hours and 23 minutes battery life.

The excellent autonomy and efficiency of the phone, combined with a good charging experience, allowed it to obtain the best score so far for the Ultra-Premium segment.

DXOMARK reports that the Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra turned in an excellent overall display performance, showing some marked improvements over its predecessor. The device provides the best user experience for video, with a refresh rate that adapts itself to the frame rate of the content being played.

Moreover, the phone came close to the very best devices for readability. It has an “Extra Brightness” feature that allows a manual boost to the maximum brightness, thus offering good outdoor readability.

When it comes to color, the new smartphone is less saturated compared to its predecessor. Under sunlight, colorful content lacks nuances.

On the other side, the phone made strong improvements, achieving greater smoothness and accuracy. It also delivered good progress in motion control but it remained essentially at the same level as the Galaxy S22 Ultra and shows the same visible aliasing when playing video games.

DXOMARK ranked Galaxy S23 Ultra at 10th, between the Google Pixel 7 and Vivo X90 Pro+ on the same rank. All three smartphones have the same camera performance and deserve 140, according to the camera review firm. Is it true that smartphone praised by DXOMARK is an important factor in camera performance?

Nobody cares about DXO…

At present, DXOMARK lovers have no other option but from purchasing the Huawei Mate 50 Pro as the best camera smartphone with a score of 149. The Google Pixel 7 Pro and Honor Magic4 Ultimate tie for 2nd with a score of 147 points. So that’s it for the top 3 choices.

And here comes the Galaxy S23 Ultra, which doesn’t require a camera certificate from DXO.

Earlier this month, Samsung introduced the Galaxy S23 Ultra, which looks quite similar to the Galaxy S22 Ultra but packs several meaningful improvements, yeah, don’t forget that massive 200MP main camera. It’s not everything, the Nightography feature is epic and 8k video recording at 30fps makes the overall experience stunning.

200MP is not just a result of the megapixel race, this image sensor equips next-gen technologies to offer the best camera performance in the industry. Nighttime photography is another great feature of the Galaxy S23 Ultra, which is not praised by DXO, well, who cares?

Apple’s latest iPhone 14 Pro got defeated by the Galaxy S23 Ultra, which surpassed the Galaxy S22 Ultra. Apple’s flagship still leads the videography, but the most used photography segment is the best in the industry on the Galaxy S23 Ultra.

DXOMARK often avoids the capabilities of Samsung’s Galaxy S smartphones. Fans even witnessed unexpected score card for Samsung flagships such as the Galaxy S22 Ultra and the Galaxy Z Fold 4. Believing DXOMARK ranking for a while, is it true that the vanilla Pixel 7 performs the same as S23 Ultra?

Vivo’s X90 Pro Plus is a tough competitor to the S23 Ultra in camera and photography. However, the smartphone is ranked 10th, below the Pixel 7 and S23 Ultra, which also raises confusion about the review firm’s testing standards.

Judging from the DXOMARK chart, there are 10 smartphones available globally that are better than the Galaxy S23 Ultra in camera. The device list includes (from 1 to 10):

  1. Huawei Mate 50 Pro
  2. Google Pixel 7 Pro
  3. Honor Magic4 Ultimate
  4. Apple iPhone 14 Pro Max
  5. Apple iPhone 14 Pro
  6. Huawei P50 Pro
  7. Apple iPhone 13 Pro
  8. Apple iPhone 13 Pro Max
  9. Xiaomi 11 Ultra
  10. Google Pixel 7

Notably, Xiaomi 12S Ultra is 15th on the chart, which is praised by several well-known tech reviewers. Do note that the top executive of Xiaomi reportedly said that we don’t send review units to DXOMARK, due to points selling controversy.

The Galaxy S23 Ultra’s space zoom camera even amazed the world’s richest person Elon Musk. There are several phones that can capture the Moon, but the capability of the S23 Ultra is unbeatable, at least in 2023.

The newly launched Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra smartphone has recently appeared on the DxOMark camera test. They say that the phone offers a good camera performance across pretty much all test attributes, however, not the best.

DxOMark ranked the Galaxy S23 Ultra camera at the tenth position, which is lower than many Google, Apple, Xiaomi, Huawei, and Honor smartphones. But it’s noteworthy that the company hasn’t tested the phone using its 200MP camera.

Samsung introduced the Galaxy S23 Ultra smartphone with a 200MP primary camera that offers three different modes, such as – 200MP, 50MP, and 12MP. Whereas, the 12MP is the default mode on the phone and DxOMark carried out the test in the default settings.

It suggests that even the 12MP camera of the smartphone offers a great picture quality that it can even match many other flagships’ larger camera sensors.

The DxOMark test results show that the S23 Ultra offers great detail in regular photos with a wide dynamic range in all lighting conditions. The report states – “It ensures good highlight and shadow detail, even when capturing difficult high-contrast scenes.”

Moreover, the latest Samsung flagship delivers great zoom shots as well. The device features two 10MP optical zoom cameras that offer 3x and 10x zoom capabilities. At the same time, the Video stabilization feature was also very effective.

On the other hand, DxOMark has also described the dark side of the Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra camera. The report says that the device delivers low contrast in backlit scenes and some loss of image details in low-light conditions. Whereas, they also noticed shutter lag in low light.

Google Pixel 6 lineup introduced a major design overhaul, which later tweaked with the Pixel 7 series. The company plans to become the biggest threat to Samsung as Google Pixel devices are emerging as alternative options in the Android market.

In terms of Pixel phones, Google has big plans for not only 2023 but also for 2024 and 2025, as per AndroidAuthority. An anonymous trusted source revealed what major changes Google is going to make in its Pixel lineup in the coming years.

2023

At the Google I/O 2023, the company will introduce two new Pixel smartphones — codenamed “lynx” and “felix.” The former is going to be the Pixel 7a, while the latter is the possible Pixel Fold, which was pictured in renders a couple of days ago.

Samsung Fold 4 rival design

In late 2023, Google is expected to launch mainstream flagship devices namely the Pixel 8 (codenamed shiba) and Pixel 8 Pro (codenamed husky). Compared to the Pixel 7 lineup, the next Pixel line of smartphones is likely to share quite similarities.

2024

Depending on the profitability of Pixel 7a, Google is likely to revise the strategy of its affordable smartphone. Similar to the iPhone SEs, the company may end up launching “a” models per year. Pixel 8a, which is codenamed “akita” could be removed from the 2024 launch if Pixel 7a launch doesn’t make sense.

  • Google also planned to launch the follow-up foldable device in 2024.

In Fall 2024, the US tech giant will come up with the Pixel 9 series of smartphones. In case the Pixel 8a gets canceled, we might see a third model in the Pixel 9 lineup, making a big change in the marketing strategy. The third model is rumored to pack all Pro-level features with a smaller 6.3-inch design.

2025

It’s not easy to talk about even 2024 and the source claims to have information about 2025 as well. Hence, going further, along with a recommendation to take it with a grain of salt, Google could make bold changes in its smartphone strategy in 2025, which will depend on success or failure of its 2023 and 2024 plans.

Pixel Flip in 2025

Since the foldable smartphone market is growing worldwide, Google is not leaving any space in the market. In 2025, Google could debut the Galaxy Z Flip rival, and to do so, it has an alternate strategy in place too. The first clamshell-foldable device could launch as a part of Pixel 10 lineup along with other three non-foldable Pixel 10 models.

However, if Google abandons the flip-style device, it would move ahead with four non-folding phones. That would be a vanilla model in small and large sizes and a pro model in small and large sizes. Once again, this would directly line up with Apple’s current strategy for iPhones.

In case the company cancels the clamshell Pixel phone, the mainstream Pixel lineup might have four non-foldable smartphones including two standard models with different screen sizes and two Pro models with different screen sizes, the same as Apple’s current iPhone lineup.

The roadmap sounds quite promising while everything depends on success and response in the market. Google is making better Android devices than Chinese vendors, but it’s far behind from Samsung. Since competition benefits consumers, we welcome Google’s arrival!

Samsung to make foldables thinner, with S Pen slot

Per the input, the South Korean tech giant had initially planned to introduce a dedicated S Pen slot on the Galaxy Z Fold 4, but it didn’t happen due to hardware limitations. Besides, Samsung also wanted to bring more powerful lenses on the Fold 4 but this change was significantly increasing weight and thickness.

The latest Galaxy Z Fold 4 weighs 263 grams which sounds quite heavier than the iPhone 14 Pro’s 206 grams and iPhone 14 Pro Max’s 240 grams. Foldable phones’ weight reduction is the biggest challenge, Samsung noted, and believes suppliers need to overcome so foldables can become lighter, thinner.

  • Challenges:
    1. Weigh less
    2. Thinner form factor
    3. More durable
    4. Reduced crease on the screen
    5. Dedicated S Pen slot
    6. Powerful camera

Foldable Apple products coming next year?

Apart from future goals and sharing strategy with partners, the Korean tech giant shared its expectation that Apple will join the foldable space in 2024. The initial Apple foldable products might be MacBooks and iPads instead of foldables.

DXOMARK has now revealed the camera test scores of Samsung’s newest Galaxy Z Fold 4 foldable smartphone. The evaluation firm tested the new Galaxy foldable phone to measure its performance in the photo, video, and zoom quality from a so-called “end-user perspective.”

In DXOMARK camera test ranking chart, the Galaxy Z Fold 4 with 124 points has been ranked 29th in the Global ranking, while its position in the Ultra-premium smartphone ranking is 25th. This Ultra-premium ranking chart includes smartphones priced over $800.

Talking about the leader of DXOMARK’s camera review, the Honor Magic4 Ultimate grabbed the crown with 147 points. Meanwhile, the Apple iPhone 14 Pro and Huawei P50 Pro are ranked 2nd and 3rd with 146 and 143 points, respectively.

According to the firm, the Galaxy Z Fold 4’s camera quality is not too good to take it to the top or runner-up in the ranking chart. However, it brings significant upgrades over its predecessor Galaxy Z Fold 3 with improved video performance when it comes to dynamic range and video noise.

DXOMARK pointed out that the Galaxy Z Fold 4’s price is very high, and it doesn’t offer the best camera experience as its pricing. The Fold 4 owners shouldn’t care about the camera scores and DXOMARK rankings as it had always been biased and leaning toward Chinese phones.
