In February 2022, Samsung introduced the Galaxy S22 series smartphones. These premium Galaxy devices feature Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 (widely) or Exynos 2200 (Europe) chipsets. In the software department, the lineup is running Android 13 (One UI 5.0), up from pre-installed Android 12 (One UI 4.1).

On February 1st, the company unveiled the Galaxy S23 series, which runs Android 13-based One UI 5.1 out of the box. Starting February 13, Samsung has begun to release the S23 lineup’s exclusive One UI 5.1 software with its older flagship devices including the S22 series.

Features apart, the Galaxy S22, S22 Plus and S22 Ultra users are facing different kinds of issues (via PiunikaWeb) with their smartphones such as battery drain, heating and low power efficiency. Users believe that the situation was better before December 2022 patch, which got worse with January 2023 patch.

Among consumers, there are discussions that the battery drain and heating issues are generated on models due to chipset maker differences as well as Samsung Foundry. The Exynos 2200 and Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 processors are manufactured by Samsung Foundry.

Due to inefficient processes, the system on the chip gets affected by battery consumption issues due to thermal management. Since consumers in some countries such as India are quite satisfied with their Galaxy S22 phone’s battery, the issue is mainly reported spotted on Exynos models.

Samsung S22 S21 One UI 5.1

During Exynos 2200’s internal testing, Samsung faced critical thermal throttling due to the chipset’s inefficiency and additionally powerful GPU, which forced it to reduce clock speed by 0.61Ghz. To bring the world’s most powerful GPU, Samsung partnered with AMD and used Xclipse GPU in the Exynos 2200.

Due to Exynos’ heating and Foundry’s production efficiency issues, Samsung turned to Qualcomm and decided to ditch its self-developed SoC from the Galaxy S lineup. This year, the Galaxy S23 series uses Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset manufactured by TSMC, worldwide.

We hope Samsung will soon fix battery draining and heating issues on the Galaxy S22 devices through a firmware update. Since hardware issues can’t be fixed with even hundreds of firmware updates, they could be reduced or optimized with code changes.

Due to bad battery life, some Galaxy S22 Ultra users are wondering to upgrade to the Galaxy S23 Ultra, which is setting new records in efficiency. Meanwhile, it’s bad to hear that the company has not yet completely fixed the battery draining issue on the S22 series.

Are my apps that power hungry ? To where I can’t even get 3 hours of SOT, without having to charge. ABSOLUTELY love the phone but considering upgrading to s23 ultra just because of the battery upgrade. Which I can’t even say it’s worth paying the extra 5-600 dollars for that. from S22Ultra

Concerns like abnormal battery drain and low power efficiency continue to emerge (1, 2, 3, 4) on the Galaxy S22 series devices. The company has recently pushed the February patch for select Galaxy models, and we hope, it could fix the battery and heating problems.

I have had the Galaxy S22 (Exynos) for almost a year now and my experience has not been completely satisfactory The battery gives me between 2-3 hours of SOT, and the device’s performance has been quite poor. There are frequent lags, the phone gets very hot, and if l’m playing a game (not a heavy game, for example Brawl Stars) while listening to music with the Galaxy Buds Pro, the music cuts out and the experience ends up being very bad. Does anyone else have this problem? Do you think that if a go to the technical service they can give me a solution?

A Galaxy S22 Ultra user claimed that after restricting background activities of unused apps, the battery consumption is greatly reduced. As per the user, the battery consumption before restricting activities was 10% per hour, which is now 2% per hour. You can also try it as a temporary fix.

Such problems are not only affecting the performance of the phone but also reducing the trust of users in Samsung devices.

February 23:

A Galaxy S21 Plus model user has reported that his phone’s 85% battery is offering just 4 hours of screen time. He is using the phone with a 120Hz refresh rate, maximum 50% brightness extra dim, and location and mobile data off. This is normal usage but his phone is giving less battery life.

February 20:

The heavy battery drain issue continues to appear for Galaxy S21 users. A user briefed that even after replacing the phone, he has to charge the device 2 to 3 times a day as its battery is draining too early. Samsung Galaxy S21 battery drain and overheating issues are still appearing online. Users are really disappointed with the battery performance and asking for a fix.

Meanwhile, a Galaxy S21 user said that turning off the “Nearby device scanning” feature worked for him. Don’t know if this completely fixes the problem, however, this might help in saving battery as a nearby device scanner runs in the background even when you don’t need it.

To turn it off, you need to go to your phone’s Settings and navigate to Connections >> More connection settings. Finally, turn off the Nearby device scanning toggle.

The Korean company introduced the S23 phones on February 1 and announced to start of their first sale on February 17. Meanwhile, some famous tipsters and tech bloggers have already had their hands on the phones.

These early buyers have reviewed the smartphones and shared their best and worst features as well as the problems that they are facing on the devices. Notably, many users have reported the same Android Auto issue on their Samsung Galaxy S23, S23+, or S23 Ultra.

First spotted by 9To5Google, the Galaxy S23 series phones and their Android Auto function are not working well together. The users are facing connection problems while trying to sync with cars wirelessly.

Samsung S23 Android Auto issue

As per the report, when customers are syncing their phones with cars through the Android Auto feature, Bluetooth pairing automatically fails after the vehicle is disabled and missing permissions that prevent the phone from connecting properly.

Despite the users’ report, 9To5Google has mentioned that they have also run into the same problems with Android Auto on the Galaxy S23 Ultra. They said that the phone is actually not connecting to their AAWireless adapter.

Moreover, the users have further reported that the issue continues to appear even after trying different troubleshooting methods, such as USB debugging mode, changing the default USB configuration to transferring files/android auto mode, and swapping out different USB-C cables.

The exact reason behind this problem is currently unclear. We even don’t know if this is a bug of Samsung Mobile or Google’s Android Auto app. However, it is expected that either of the companies will resolve this issue on the S23 devices with the upcoming phone/app updates.

Samsung’s Android 13-based One UI 5.0 update brought some severe bugs and issues, which seem unfixed in the One UI 5.1 too. Starting February 13, Samsung is treating flagship Galaxy devices with the new One UI 5.1 software, which has several features and improvements.

The new One UI 5.1 update is available for various Galaxy devices including the Galaxy S22, Galaxy S21, Galaxy Z Fold 4, and Galaxy Z Flip 4. Issues like battery drain and system lag may be fixed as soon as the new software optimizes with your device, however, we are listing what emerged so far.

After installing the One UI 5.1, some Galaxy S22 smartphone users reported having abnormal battery drain problems. Since we are already covering the battery drain issue of the S22 series, it seems unresolved on the One UI 5.1 firmware too. Here’s what users said (1, 2, 3):

“If only rollback could be done I would do it without a second thought. One UI 5.1 destroyed the autonomy of the MIO S22 ultra which until Sunday was 7 hours of display with moderate use and 42 hours of stand-by with light use.”

Another issue is related to the lack of features, which users have seen in the Galaxy S23 smartphone reviews. The One UI 5.1 doesn’t bring the iOS-inspired image-lifting feature to the Galaxy S22 series, which makes users disappointed. Here’s what users said (1, 2):

“Hi all, is it possible that the photo contour function on the s 23 ultra with one ui 5.1 is there while on the s 22 ultra fresh from the update it is not there? Do you think they will implement it or is it all a ploy to make us spend more money to switch to the next model?”

Apart from this, some users are also facing a problem, causing them not to enable the WLAN (WiFi) calling toggle, and the Bluetooth gets enabled itself. Moreover, the user reported having a network signal reception problem, which has not been fixed with the One UI 5.1 update either. Statement below:

“Hello, updated the phone with 5.01 the wifi call has disappeared and the problem of signal reception still remains..”

One UI 5.0 update brought a new Wallpaper and style section, from where you can customize the wallpaper settings of your smartphone. After updating to the One UI 5.1, users are no longer getting the Color Palette adjustment popup after turning the wallpaper, which makes it a bit difficult to pick the preferred color palette.

Follow our socials → Google News, Telegram, Twitter, Facebook

Google Wallet is a widely used application, which is a great alternative to Samsung Pay service. Some European consumers of the Galaxy devices reported that the Google Wallet is no longer serviceable after installation of the new One UI 5.1 update. Here’s what a user said:

“Today I downloaded the One UI 5.1 update and did a factory data reset, but it no longer allows me to set up my cards for contactless payments on Google wallet (up until now they have always worked perfectly).”

As of now, Samsung has neither replied to any of the users’ feedback/reports nor pulled the One UI 5.1 rollout. As said at the beginning, most of the bugs and issues are natural as One UI 5.1 is a major firmware update. Meanwhile, problems like toggle, UI changes, and battery drain should be acknowledged.

Samsung Galaxy S22 is currently one of the best-selling flagship smartphones. The company takes care of its users by providing new software updates ahead of anyone else. But many users of Samsung are reporting the slow charging and faulty port issues that they are facing on their respective Galaxy S22 phones.

As per information, users of all three Samsung Galaxy S22 models are facing slow charging and other charging port issues. A large number of corresponding device owners are using the Samsung Member community and Reddit platform to describe their problems and ask if others know of a solution.

According to the users’ reports, in many cases, the Galaxy S22 does not recognize that the cord is plugged into the charging port, which causes the phone to not charge. And, when it recognizes after so many trials, it charges very slowly.

Samsung S22 charging port issue

A user further reported that his Galaxy S22 phone has a defective charging port. He only purchased the smartphone in October 2022 and in these few months, it gets damaged. He says when he sometimes robustly plug-in the charging chord, the whole port moves.

However, the reason behind this is not clear. The slow charging issue may be fixed with the upcoming software updates just like the way the company has recently improved the battery life of the Galaxy S22 phone so that users can run the phone for a long time without any interruption. But the faulty charging port problem can only be solved by replacing it. Let’s wait for Samsung’s response.

Updated on January 27

Some Galaxy S22 owners are reporting that their phone is taking a long time to charge. Even charging half of its battery (49% to 100%) is taking about 2 hours, which is too long than usual.

January 26:

Many more users have complained about the slow charging issue of the Samsung Galaxy S22 smartphone on Reddit. A user said that his phone constantly charges and uncharges every few seconds after plugging in the charger.

Samsung rolled out major Android 13 update for several Galaxy flagship and mid-range devices so far. Some users of Samsung Galaxy S22 and Galaxy S21 series out that the Android 13 upgrade has an issue that causes an error on the Microsoft Intune service.

Earlier, Microsoft acknowledged that the Intune service caused an enrollment issue on some Samsung smartphones after Android 13 update, mainly the Galaxy S22 and S21 series. The company also promised that a fix for the issue is coming to your device as soon as the Android and phone vendors give certification.

Apart from this, Samsung confirmed that it is actively investigating this issue alongside Google. After installing Android 13, Galaxy S22 and S21 smartphone users are unable to complete enrollment when creating a Work Profile for Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) provisioning.

  • Attempting to complete enrollment results in the error:
Can't setup device. Contact your IT admin for help.
  • This is followed by the error message:
Unable to create Work Profile.

As noted by Microsoft and Samsung, a system restart will be necessary to automatically install the necessary updated Android Device Policy app. In case rebooting doesn’t help, users can also manually install the package from the Google Play Store and perform a system restore afterward.

“A server-side fix has been provided. To resolve the issue, reboot the device before enrollment. If the issue persists after reboot, install the Android Device Policy app from the Google Play Store before proceeding with enrollment,” stated Samsung Knox Resolution.

Meanwhile, it looks like the latest firmware also lacks reliability, as reported by some users. While the November update appears to be fixing the Galaxy Watch 4’s bricking issue, some users still report that their smartwatch got bricked after installing the new GVK4 update.

Here is the November update changelog:

  • Improved system stability and reliability
  • A power operation-related stabilization code has been applied.
    • As errors may occur during the update, please back up any important data before proceeding.

As spotted by 9to5Google, “one user notes that their device restarted a few times, appearing to be boot looping, during installation, but did eventually load into the OS.” However, users are even discussing that the model manufactured around August 2021 is affected more than those released in later months.

Samsung recently released the One UI 5.0 beta 4 update for Galaxy S22 series smartphones in different regions. This new beta update fixed the Wallpaper crashing issue that users were facing in One UI 5.0 beta 3. Now, you can easily apply Wallpaper on your smartphone’s home screen and lock screen.

September 23…

Samsung recently released the Android 13-based One UI 5.0 Beta 3 update for the Galaxy S22 series devices, which fixes several issues as well as brings some new features.

Along with this, the company has come up with a new Wallpapers section featuring device-specific wallpapers in the Featured tab, Gallery, Graphical, Colors, etc. That’s not enough because this beta update has brought some new issues along with issue fixes.

After installing the One UI 5 Beta 3 update on Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra, it has been noted that the Wallpaper app is not working properly. You are not able to set any wallpaper after this update because the app is crashing.

When you open in Wallpaper and Style section, you can see that all options including preview, color palette, and Dark mode are working properly but only after opening the “Browse my wallpaper” option the app is crashing. If it doesn’t crash after opening the section, it will crash when selecting any wallpaper from Featured, Gallery, Colors, Graphical, and more.

Samsung’s One UI 5.0 Beta 3 brings many new wallpapers but you are not able to set them on the home or lock screen of your smartphone. As of now, this issue has been found in the Galaxy S22 Ultra smartphones, there is a possibility that the Galaxy S22 and Galaxy S22 Plus smartphones may also have this issue as they have also received the One UI 5 beta 3 update.

Reason

It is for sure that this Wallpaper crashing issue has come in Samsung Galaxy S22 only after the release of the One UI 5.0 Beta 3 update. Recently Samsung released a new update for the Wallpaper and style app with version 2.1.18. The version working on Galaxy S22 Ultra is the same and maybe, the issue has been coming since this version.

Expected Solution

The expectation is that Samsung will soon fix the One UI 5 Wallpaper crashing issue by releasing the next beta update or can fix it by bringing an update to the wallpaper and style. However, there is no official information yet.

If you are also facing this issue in your Galaxy S22 series smartphone, then we can tell us through social media.

Some of the Galaxy S22 One UI 5.0 Beta participants reported having crashing issues with One UI Home, better known as Samsung System Launcher. To be noted, the company has recently released the third One UI 5.0 Beta update for the Galaxy S22 smartphone users.

The Korean community’s moderator revealed that the One UI Home function is crashing because of the Good Lock’s Home Up module. To be specified, Galaxy S22 owners who use the Home Up app for homscreen customization are facing crashing issues with One UI Home after the third One UI 5.0 Beta installation.

Adding to this, the issues are not just limited to crashing the One UI Home as the homescreen folders are also behaving abnormally such as bouncing or not working on the first attempt. As of now, the company has just acknowledged the crashing issue, however, it will surely be fixed with Beta 4.

Meanwhile, the moderator shared a temporary fix for the issue through which you can get rid of the crashing error of homescreen. To do so, you will be needing to compromise with the Home Up app’s access for a few days as the moderator suggested to Uninstall the module.

After proceeding with Home Up uninstallation, you should reboot/restart your Galaxy device once for further system optimizations. In case the issue still persists even after uninstalling the Home Up module, owners are required to send the error log as the crashing reason may be something else then.

Stable One UI 5.0 update

On October 12, Samsung will introduce the new Android 13-based One UI 5.0 version at the Developer Conference. And we are dreaming that the company will start releasing the Stable Android 13 update to the Galaxy S22 series devices sometime in mid to late October.
