In February 2022, Samsung introduced the Galaxy S22 series smartphones. These premium Galaxy devices feature Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 (widely) or Exynos 2200 (Europe) chipsets. In the software department, the lineup is running Android 13 (One UI 5.0), up from pre-installed Android 12 (One UI 4.1).

On February 1st, the company unveiled the Galaxy S23 series, which runs Android 13-based One UI 5.1 out of the box. Starting February 13, Samsung has begun to release the S23 lineup’s exclusive One UI 5.1 software with its older flagship devices including the S22 series.

Features apart, the Galaxy S22, S22 Plus and S22 Ultra users are facing different kinds of issues (via PiunikaWeb) with their smartphones such as battery drain, heating and low power efficiency. Users believe that the situation was better before December 2022 patch, which got worse with January 2023 patch.

Among consumers, there are discussions that the battery drain and heating issues are generated on models due to chipset maker differences as well as Samsung Foundry. The Exynos 2200 and Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 processors are manufactured by Samsung Foundry.

Due to inefficient processes, the system on the chip gets affected by battery consumption issues due to thermal management. Since consumers in some countries such as India are quite satisfied with their Galaxy S22 phone’s battery, the issue is mainly reported spotted on Exynos models.

Samsung S22 S21 One UI 5.1

During Exynos 2200’s internal testing, Samsung faced critical thermal throttling due to the chipset’s inefficiency and additionally powerful GPU, which forced it to reduce clock speed by 0.61Ghz. To bring the world’s most powerful GPU, Samsung partnered with AMD and used Xclipse GPU in the Exynos 2200.

Due to Exynos’ heating and Foundry’s production efficiency issues, Samsung turned to Qualcomm and decided to ditch its self-developed SoC from the Galaxy S lineup. This year, the Galaxy S23 series uses Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset manufactured by TSMC, worldwide.

We hope Samsung will soon fix battery draining and heating issues on the Galaxy S22 devices through a firmware update. Since hardware issues can’t be fixed with even hundreds of firmware updates, they could be reduced or optimized with code changes.

Due to bad battery life, some Galaxy S22 Ultra users are wondering to upgrade to the Galaxy S23 Ultra, which is setting new records in efficiency. Meanwhile, it’s bad to hear that the company has not yet completely fixed the battery draining issue on the S22 series.

Are my apps that power hungry ? To where I can’t even get 3 hours of SOT, without having to charge. ABSOLUTELY love the phone but considering upgrading to s23 ultra just because of the battery upgrade. Which I can’t even say it’s worth paying the extra 5-600 dollars for that. from S22Ultra

I have had the Galaxy S22 (Exynos) for almost a year now and my experience has not been completely satisfactory The battery gives me between 2-3 hours of SOT, and the device’s performance has been quite poor. There are frequent lags, the phone gets very hot, and if l’m playing a game (not a heavy game, for example Brawl Stars) while listening to music with the Galaxy Buds Pro, the music cuts out and the experience ends up being very bad. Does anyone else have this problem? Do you think that if a go to the technical service they can give me a solution?

Unwanted problems are not a new concern on newly released flagship smartphones. Some Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra users reported having problem with Wi-Fi connectivity. And the interesting part is that this problem appeared on the devices delivered on launch day.

General users (1/2/3/4/5/6/7) and an author of AC (via PA) are reporting that their Galaxy S23 Ultra smartphone has no internet on Wi-Fi, however, Samsung seems aware of the connectivity problem. As per reports, the device stays connected to the Wi-Fi network, but the internet connection access remains unavailable.

Occasionally, the smartphone begins working through a Wi-Fi connection’s internet, while the duration doesn’t last too long. More specifically, it has been noticed that the connectivity problem is limited to the Ultra model, and the vanilla and Plus Galaxy S23 are working fine.

It’s worth mentioning that the issue is being reported for consumers having Wi-Fi 6 (802.11ax) routers. This is a new generation of wireless technology and unquestionably not purchased by users widely. The spread of the issue suggests that the S23 Ultra has no issues with older-generation Wi-Fi routers.

“Suspecting it had something with the WiFi 6 protocol, I swapped back to my old WiFi 5 router. The phone has since maintained the connection for more than 24 hours, where before it would drop the WiFi 6 connection within an hour or two.” – Reddit user -avenged-

Seeing the possible hardware problem, consumers reached out to Samsung support where a representative told a Reddit user that the next update would address the issue. It looks like, the company is already aware of the bug and working to deliver a fix firmware update to affected models.

In case the problem remains unfixed post-fix firmware installation, you may have to claim a repair or replacement unit under warranty. This may disappoint the shoppers’ community who is paying over a thousand dollars to own the latest Samsung flagship.

We will keep you updated on the matter.

Post-launch, Samsung released the first firmware update for the new Galaxy S23 series devices in various parts of the world including India, Korea, and the US. This software has reportedly broken the adaptive refresh rate feature of the Samsung Galaxy S23 smartphones.

According to user reports (gathered by PiunikaWeb), February 2023 firmware update broke the adaptive refresh rate function on the Samsung Galaxy S23, S23 Plus, and S23 Ultra. Users report that the scrolling experience on Galaxy S23 is not smooth in various apps such as Google Play.

samsung galaxy s23 ultra

Since some S22 Ultra users are also facing lag issues in scrolling, this issue appears to be related to the One UI 5.1 software instead of the Galaxy S23 series. Anyways, users of the new S23 series are complaining about sluggish scrolling problems on various platforms such as Samsung Community and Reddit.

It’s worth mentioning that the adaptive refresh rate technology is applied in the Galaxy flagships to consume less power and battery juice. It works on different refresh rate functions per app, such as the Google Play Store and Galaxy Store reportedly support 60Hz, while others are full.

As the phone’s entire user interface runs on a 120Hz refresh rate, the 60Hz scrolling experience on unsupported apps looks laggy or glitchy. In that case, you just have the option to disable the adaptive refers rate feature from your Galaxy phone’s display settings.

We will update this story as soon as new input arrives.

Samsung launched the Galaxy S23 series phones with plenty of advanced features, the latest internals, and the most up-to-date software. But some users of Samsung Galaxy S23 phones are encountering the Android Auto connection issue.

These early buyers have reviewed the smartphones and shared their best and worst features as well as the problems that they are facing on the devices. Notably, many users have reported the same Android Auto issue on their Samsung Galaxy S23, S23+, or S23 Ultra.

First spotted by 9To5Google, the Galaxy S23 series phones and their Android Auto function are not working well together. The users are facing connection problems while trying to sync with cars wirelessly.

Samsung S23 Android Auto issue

As per the report, when customers are syncing their phones with cars through the Android Auto feature, Bluetooth pairing automatically fails after the vehicle is disabled and missing permissions that prevent the phone from connecting properly.

Despite the users’ report, 9To5Google has mentioned that they have also run into the same problems with Android Auto on the Galaxy S23 Ultra. They said that the phone is actually not connecting to their AAWireless adapter.

Moreover, the users have further reported that the issue continues to appear even after trying different troubleshooting methods, such as USB debugging mode, changing the default USB configuration to transferring files/android auto mode, and swapping out different USB-C cables.

The exact reason behind this problem is currently unclear. We even don’t know if this is a bug of Samsung Mobile or Google’s Android Auto app. However, it is expected that either of the companies will resolve this issue on the S23 devices with the upcoming phone/app updates.

Samsung’s Android 13-based One UI 5.0 update brought some severe bugs and issues, which seem unfixed in the One UI 5.1 too. Starting February 13, Samsung is treating flagship Galaxy devices with the new One UI 5.1 software, which has several features and improvements.

The new One UI 5.1 update is available for various Galaxy devices including the Galaxy S22, Galaxy S21, Galaxy Z Fold 4, and Galaxy Z Flip 4. Issues like battery drain and system lag may be fixed as soon as the new software optimizes with your device, however, we are listing what emerged so far.

After installing the One UI 5.1, some Galaxy S22 smartphone users reported having abnormal battery drain problems. Since we are already covering the battery drain issue of the S22 series, it seems unresolved on the One UI 5.1 firmware too. Here’s what users said (1, 2, 3):

“If only rollback could be done I would do it without a second thought. One UI 5.1 destroyed the autonomy of the MIO S22 ultra which until Sunday was 7 hours of display with moderate use and 42 hours of stand-by with light use.”

Another issue is related to the lack of features, which users have seen in the Galaxy S23 smartphone reviews. The One UI 5.1 doesn’t bring the iOS-inspired image-lifting feature to the Galaxy S22 series, which makes users disappointed. Here’s what users said (1, 2):

“Hi all, is it possible that the photo contour function on the s 23 ultra with one ui 5.1 is there while on the s 22 ultra fresh from the update it is not there? Do you think they will implement it or is it all a ploy to make us spend more money to switch to the next model?”

Apart from this, some users are also facing a problem, causing them not to enable the WLAN (WiFi) calling toggle, and the Bluetooth gets enabled itself. Moreover, the user reported having a network signal reception problem, which has not been fixed with the One UI 5.1 update either. Statement below:

“Hello, updated the phone with 5.01 the wifi call has disappeared and the problem of signal reception still remains..”

One UI 5.0 update brought a new Wallpaper and style section, from where you can customize the wallpaper settings of your smartphone. After updating to the One UI 5.1, users are no longer getting the Color Palette adjustment popup after turning the wallpaper, which makes it a bit difficult to pick the preferred color palette.

Google Wallet is a widely used application, which is a great alternative to Samsung Pay service. Some European consumers of the Galaxy devices reported that the Google Wallet is no longer serviceable after installation of the new One UI 5.1 update. Here’s what a user said:

“Today I downloaded the One UI 5.1 update and did a factory data reset, but it no longer allows me to set up my cards for contactless payments on Google wallet (up until now they have always worked perfectly).”

As of now, Samsung has neither replied to any of the users’ feedback/reports nor pulled the One UI 5.1 rollout. As said at the beginning, most of the bugs and issues are natural as One UI 5.1 is a major firmware update. Meanwhile, problems like toggle, UI changes, and battery drain should be acknowledged.

As the issue is appearing after the warranty gets expired, users have no other option but to get their Galaxy Z Fold 3’s cracked screen replaced at their own expense. It has been noted that the users have used the device carefully and there’s no sign of trauma or damage.

As claimed by users, the crease/wrinkle area of the Galaxy Z Fold 3’s screen got cracked even without dropping the device. When contacted, the company representative referred her to uBreakiFix, where the screen replacement costs a whopping $800.

There are more similar reports on the Reddit threads, where users complain that the screen is getting cracked for no reason and everything happened right after the warranty expired. Reddit user Snoo reported that they noticed the crack in the middle of the screen after carefully using the phone for over a year.

A couple of months back, we also faced the screen protector peel-off issue on our Z Fold 3 review unit. The company charged $20 for screen protector replacement, which should be free of cost for at least 2 years. On the screen crack problem, Samsung has not yet made any official statement.

Consumers living in the US can get in touch with Samsung’s CEO to explain the issue by attaching a sufficient amount of photos of screen cracks. You should get answered as early as possible, while, there’s still a way of going legal against Samsung regarding the quality defect.
