Samsung will introduce the Android 14-based One UI 6.0 software version for Galaxy devices this year. I can confirm that the next version will be One UI 6 as there’s no rocket science behind this. One UI is a mature software and the company is strictly maintaining the naming strategy.

One UI 6.0

Flagship Samsung devices ranging from the Galaxy S21 series to the upcoming Galaxy Z Fold 5 and Flip 5 foldables are eligible for the One UI 6.0 update, based on Android 14. In addition, there are a lot of Galaxy handsets launched with Android 12, which are also on the list!

One UI 6 is becoming the biggest reason, which is forcing me to purchase the S23 Ultra, but, I’ll continue using my S22 Ultra as a daily driver. Upgrade to the Galaxy Z Fold 5 will be highly fruitful for me, since, Samsung won’t be taking much time to expand One UI 6 Beta for older models.

One UI 6.0 Features

All the Security and Privacy related features and improvements of Android 14 will be included with the One UI 6.0 update. Samsung doesn’t rely on Google’s Android when it comes to the user interface as Galaxies offer the best and clean user experience with One UI.

We are too away from the One UI 6’s tentative development timeline, but, Samsung should now work on app icons, stock launcher, quick settings panel, and notification panel. Most users want a radically renovated user interface in One UI, as it’s continuing with refinements and refinements.

Samsung One UI 6.0

One UI 6.0 Eligible devices

In the Galaxy Z series, Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold 4, Galaxy Z Flip 4, Galaxy Z Fold 3, and Galaxy Z Flip 3 are eligible for the new OS. In the Galaxy S series, the Galaxy S23 series will get One UI 6 first, however, it will also be rolled out to the Galaxy S22 series and Galaxy S21 series (FE included).

Samsung offers two major Android upgrades to every Galaxy device (from Galaxy A, M, and F lineups). It means, if your device launched with Android 12 out of the box, it will surely get the Android 14 upgrade. Some A series devices are also eligible for three OS upgrades, hence, check the complete list below:

List of Samsung Galaxy devices eligible for Android 14 (One UI 6.0) update

One UI 6.0 Release Date

Within 2022, the company rolled out the One UI 5.0 update for almost all eligible Galaxy models. And February became a great month for flagship Galaxy devices that received the One UI 5.1 feature drop update. It’s difficult to commit release date of One UI 6.0, while the timeline should be early October.

Post completion of the One UI 5.0 rollout, Samsung promised that it will further strengthen its collaboration with chip makers (i.e. Qualcomm) and Google. As promised, this year, the company will try to deploy One UI even faster and more reliable software for Galaxy.

Google rolled out the second Developer Preview of Android 14 for Pixel smartphones. Android 14 DP2 brings a lot of new and unique features to Pixel devices, one of which is Emoji Wallpapers.

Several features of Android 14 DP2 are not visible by default, but tipster Mishaal Rahman has discovered a feature that is exclusive to Pixel phones i.e Emoji Wallpapers. The package name of this new feature is “com.google.android.apps.emojiwallpaper” and it needs the feature flag “com.google.android.feature.PIXEL_EXPERIENCE” to be declared.

ANDROID 14 EMOJI WALLPAPERS

Emoji Wallpaper! Its name itself tells us its functionality. This feature allows you to create a wallpaper of 14 emojis with Android 14 on Pixel devices. This means that you can make a wallpaper by selecting the emoji of your choice.

In the Emoji Wallpaper app, you can select emoji, patterns, and colors to create a new wallpaper. Also, you can click on the Randomize button to generate a randomized emoji wallpaper. However, there are different patterns available for Wallpapers – Mosaic, Lotus, Stacks, Sprinkle, and Prism.

Once the wallpaper is created according to your own, then press Save. Now, you can easily set it on your smartphone’s home or lock screen, just need to visit Settings >> Wallpapers & Style >> Wallpapers >> Emoji Lab.

Notably, the feature is not enabled by the default in Android 14 Developers Preview so but the tipster found it. So it is not confirmed whether Google will release it with stable Android 14 or not.

Millions of Galaxy devices have already upgraded to the Android 13 operating system, but, Samsung consumers have now started to discuss the Android 14 update. Pay attention, Galaxy devices eligible for a more major OS upgrade might get One UI 5.1.1 as well, based on Android 13, before v14.

In early February, Google kicked off Android 14 on the Developer Preview channel, with the 2nd build launches this month. April and May would be going to the months of Android 14’s Public Beta rollout, followed by Platform Stability could be reached in June / July.

Different non-Google smartphones would get access to the Android 14 Developer Preview as soon as it expands as Public Beta for Pixel devices. However, Samsung won’t participate in Google’s activities as it runs its own One UI Beta testing for Galaxy handsets.

Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra

The current One UI 5.0 is based on Android 13, whereas the last year’s One UI 4.x versions are based on the Android 12 operating system. Accordingly, the company may introduce the One UI 6.0 software for Galaxy devices, which will be based on the Android 14 OS.

Samsung is committed to bringing up to four generations of Android plus One UI and five years of security updates. Thanks to this solid policy, we have a pretty clear idea of which Galaxies will be receiving the next Android version upgrade.

Google introduced the new Android 14 operating system for Pixel smartphones and the system images are available on the Developer Preview channel. The company plans to reach the Platform Stability milestone by July 2023, followed by Stable deployment in late July or early August.

On February 8, the Android maker released the very initial build (Developer Preview 1) of the latest version of its mobile platform. It’s a developer-centric version, which comes with under-the-hood changes and new APIs to help app developers understand and grow the ecosystem.

Developer Preview

Let’s explore Android 14 Features (DP 1) [Source – Mishaal Rahman]

Predictive back gesture

Android 14’s brand-new predictive back gesture allows you to preview where you’re going when you swipe back. To be mentioned, Android 13 just shows preview swipes back to the home screen. Have a look:

Vibrant “Basic colours” in Color Palette

The first DP build of Android 14 introduces more vibrant “Basic colours” options in the Wallpaper and style section. It looks like, the company has tweaked the first four-color carousel with brighter, more visually stand-out options.

Apps installed in the background

This is a new feature introduced by Android 14 DP, which lists apps that are sideloaded in the background, without your permission. You can check and uninstall them as they are not necessary for your phone to work normally.

Fast Pair

Samsung introduced the Galaxy S23 series, which brings Google’s Fast Pair feature out of the box. This feature has now arrived in the “Connection preferences” section, courtesy of the Android 14 Developer Preview 1.

Integrated Health Connect

Android 14 has integrated Google’s Health Connect platform, which is currently available through an installable application. The DP1 has a new Mainline module called Health Connect that contains the Health Connect app.

Prevention to install old apps

Android 14 will now warn you when you install an app that targets API level 27 or lower (ie. Android 8.1 or older). The threshold that triggered this warning was previously set at API level 22 (Android 5.1) in Android 10.

Tweaked “Security & privacy” section

The new OS brings a handful of minor changes to the Security & privacy section such as the addition of a new subpage for subheadings instead of dropdown menus.

Battery Saver UI

Android 14 comes with a couple of changes to the Battery section and operation of the Battery Saver UI. The Battery Saver section now has Basic and Extreme battery-saving options along with an integrated Adaptive tool.

Screen time in Battery usage section

Ditched with Android 12, Android 14 Developer Preview 1 brings back the ability to see just how long your screen has been on since your last full charge.

Taskbar text labels on larger displays

Android 12L brought the nifty Taskbar feature for large-screen devices such as tablets and foldables. Android 14 DP1 now shows text names below dock app icons in the taskbar on screens with a tablet DPI of 600+.

Advanced memory protection

Mishaal Rahman spotted that Android 14 is adding a new beta feature called “advanced memory protection” that “helps you protect your device from bugs that may put your security at risk.”

Hearing devices

In the new OS, there is a dedicated settings page for hearing devices at Settings > Accessibility > Hearing devices. It lets you pair a new hearing aid device, enable a shortcut to these settings, and toggle “hearing aid compatibility”.

One UI-inspired Cloned Apps

Android 14 is preparing to add a One UI-inspired app cloning feature. Many OEMs/third-party apps offer this functionality already, but it’s nice to see work on this in Google’s version of Android for Pixel phones.

Android 14 would probably go official next month for Developers, followed by public Beta in May and Stable release in August. Samsung phones don’t run stock Android, but, the features and novelties undoubtedly reflect on each version of One UI. Meanwhile, a wonderful Android 14 concept video just emerged!

Courtesy of the YouTube channel Concept Central, the Android 14 concept video is so promising, at least for Pixel users! It also reminds Google of the features that are being calculated as basic things nowadays but lack from its stock Android operating system.

Follow Sammy Fans on Google News

This 58-second concept begins with a short introduction and stops at 14 counts and gives a sneak peek at what’s coming next. The first imagined feature is Lock screen widgets, Android 14 should bring this common feature as Google’s premium smartphone users get jealous seeing the One UI.

Join Sammy Fans on Telegram

Second, the capability to lock individual apps. It is one of the most useful features of smartphones. Android and even One UI lack a dedicated app lock, which ensures extra privacy. Social platforms like WhatsApp and Telegram have their in-app lock, but, an in-built locker is required in Android, hmm… in One UI too.

Android 14 Concept Video

Android 13 continued the Android 12-like Quick Settings, featuring large horizontal tiles, meanwhile, there should be some options to tweak the interface. The concept showcases which kind of Quick Settings icons Google can bring into the Android 14 operating system.

The clipboard manager of Android 13 is really an amazing feature, letting you share the recently copied stuff with ease. Another step ahead, the concept imagines this feature can be further advanced with more options including the recently copied and images individually.

Google’s testing predictive back gestures, which shows take a pretty short time duration to display what will be the next screen. Moreover, the Left and Right swipe arrows also got a translucent background for enhanced visibility across functions and apps. Enjoy the concept video, below:

Google is expected to release the first Android 14 developer preview next month. Ahead of this, a new information reveals that Android 14 will bring an intuitive system share sheet that will be combined with Google Play Services.

Android share sheet is primarily designed for sending content outside your app or directly to your contacts. It’s great for performing basic functionalities of seamless file transferring but it has not been much developed since its availability.

Google has tried to improve it over the years but since it can only be updated with a new Android generation, the progress of its improvement is very slow. Fortunately, this slow progress is not going to continue further as Google is likely to combine the Android 14 share sheet with Play services.

Android 14 Share sheet

As spotted by Mishaal Rahman from Esper, Google has developed an experimental, hidden copy of the share sheet that lives within Android 13. At a glance, it looks identical to the current share sheet, even though its functionality is the same but what makes it different is that it is a mainline module.

It means that the share sheet is decoupled from Android and can be updated through Play Services just like other Google Play system apps and services. After its implementation, the company can upgrade it separately and users will be able to access its new features faster than before.

It is worth noting that the company has not yet told what it intends to do by combining the share sheet with Play Services. However, one thing is for sure we will see more improvements to the Android Share Sheet in the coming time.

Google officially revealed that Android 14 will bring the “Predictive back gesture” to all smartphones, including Samsung, by default. The company initially started to work on this feature with Android 13 OS. It reminds you when you’re exiting an app to your homescreen.

Android smartphones come with an easy back gesture that lets you go back to the previous screen or home screen with a single swipe. But sometimes it accidentally takes you out of the app, which is quite irritating when you are performing an important task on your phone.

Meanwhile, to get rid of this problem, Google is bringing the Predictive back gesture with the upcoming Android 14 operating system. This feature will give you a preview of the previous screen before performing the back gesture.

9To5Google has spotted this feature working on the Google Calendar app. A person opens for an event and then slowly swipes back. While swiping, the fullscreen events page shrinks until it starts showing the previous screen, which is the calendar’s schedule list view.

This is how the feature prevents users from accidentally exiting the app in the middle of a task. The procedure is then coupled with an animation from Google Calendar that shows an inline event card contract in the list.

It’s worth mentioning that Android 13 users can also test the predictive back gesture on apps like the Google Phone and Google TV after enabling it from the Developer options. When you use the back gesture, these supported apps will show you exactly where you will reach when the step is done.
